if your LO is in daycare and doesn't nap well there....

DS goes to daycare only one day/weak, usually tuesday.  he doesn't nap well or at all, and comes home tired, we then put him down at 4/5 pm, and he ends up having trouble STTN.  any advice?

  • Its going to be hard because he's only going one day a week.  Its a new transition every week him.  He does not really have time to get used to the noise and everything that's going on. The only thing I can think of is making sure you are making as much noise as possible at home when he is napping, also try to keep your schedule at home as close as possible to the one at daycare.  HTH

  • Sorry.  I don't think I have any advice but I know how it is sometimes.  DS is in daycare 4 days a week.  About half the time he sleeps well, the other half he doesn't.  Right now, if he doesn't sleep well, he tends to fall asleep in the car on the way home. He gets a little power nap in that helps him make it to bed time.
  • I don't really have any advice.  However, DS used to go to daycare from 7:45 to 4.  He would take two 30 minute naps.  We would feed him by 5 and have him in bed shortly after.  I cannot remember now, if he had trouble STTN.

I have now reduced my hours and  DS stays from 7:50 to 1 four days a week and 7:50 to 4 only one day a week.  On the long day, DS goes to bed earlier, but sleeps well through the night.

Could you keep DS us later?  Like 5:30?  Does he STTN the nights of the days that he doesn't go to daycare?

  • DD is at daycare from 9:30-4:30 M-F, and doesn't nap at all there.  DCP gave up fighting her on it and they just do quiet activities while the other kids are napping.  She comes home and naps from 5-6, then goes to bed at 8:30 and STTN.  Maybe you need to let him have a little nap when you get home.  The pedi told us that if she doesn't nap at all, she's more likely to act as though going down for the night is a long nap, then want to be up to play for a bit later.  I've definitely noticed the days she will not nap at all, she's up more at night.
