3rd Trimester

Position of the baby..

so this may be a stupid question but my doctor at about 30-32 weeks said that my LO was head down based on him solely feeling the outside of my stomach.

I used to feel her hiccup like her little head was down wayyy below my belly button but in the past week i've begun feeling her kicking me in the side instead of higher up under my breast and was wondering how I would go about finding out what position she is in.

My doctor is always busy and never has time to schedule me in so I was curious how you all found out the babies position or if it is based on where you feel your LO moving!

Thanks!

Re: Position of the baby..

  • I never know where he/she is.  I just feel movement all over ;)  Some people go to the spinning babies website but I can't figure it out...lol!

  • Wait... what?  Aren't you going for normal weekly (or biweekly) appointments?  What do you mean your Dr never has time to schedule you in?

My midwife lets me know at each appointment how my baby is positioned... it's pretty easy for her to figure it out by feeling on my belly.

  • i'm supposed to be going every two weeks and then starting next week every week but he is full until the end of october (when my baby is due) and i have to wait for people to cancel their appointments to even see him.  They wouldn't let me schedule in advance way back because they said it isn't their policy.  It's a little frustrating now!

    ?

Well, starting this week - shouldn't you see your dr every week now??? That is how often I'm seeing ?mine now anyway. ?My dr said starting this week she will start to determine the position of the baby.

Yours sounds just like mine - I feel the hiccups way low, so I think she is head down, but she kicks ALLLL the way over on my right side. ?I think she is just curved so she pushes her feet out to the side - maybe yours is doing the same??

I also go to the chiropractor weekly and she has said the same thing and that has helped me know also - so maybe you could ask a chiro???

Keep doing pelvic rocks and they help ensure head down and lining that baby up right! ?:) ?GL!?

  • As the mother of a breech baby (DS), I recommend that you ask your doctor to check again at your next appt...that is why he is there... he needs to take the time! They can tell externally from what I've read. I had 6 different doctors my last few weeks and not one ever checked his position...my water broke and have to have an emergency C b/c he was breech and no one ever knew.  We also had to deal with hip problems that I could have been better prepared for if I had known that DS was breech.
  • My baby is head down and I get kicked high up in the sides - I figure his butt is in the middle of my belly up high and when he extends his feet to kick they are headed "inwards" so to speak - which feels like a kick on the side of my belly.
  • oh, i just read your post above (was posting mine as yours posted) - gosh, that must be so frustrating to not schedule with him!

I would demand to get scheduled with SOMEONE every week - a midwife or nurse??? just to keep tabs on you.

I was able to sched ALL my appts months in advance, so I just figured that's what they did for everyone! ?Sorry.?

I have never heard anything so ridiculous!  You need to be seen every week and should be a high priority patient in the end of your pregnancy!
  • I could tell because of where her hiccups were. hiccups usually make the back/shoulders jerk, which happens on the left side all the time; and I also knew how she was positioned because quite often there is a bump that sticks out on my left side; and every single time I see that bump push out, I feel something else all the way over on my right side (her feet) which told me she was stretching her little legs out. So put two and two together and that's how she's in there!
