Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

My waste of an afternoon...

The insurance is making me apply for Social Security Disability and WIC before they cover all financial treatments for the twins.  Of course we make good money so we don't qualify and CIGNA is on the line for everything.  So I wasted my afternoon just to pacifvy my insurance company.  UGH!

  • fran, I don't even understand that logic. What is the reasoning?
  • They essentially made you apply for government assistance in effort to get out of paying?  Am I reading that correctly?

I HATE the loops insurance companies make you jump through.

Well, that is what I said.  But if the twins qualified for disability the govt would be paying the lion share of the medical bills (which makes no sense b/c that is what health insurance is for) if the twins have any long term problems not Cigna.  The funny thing is that since I have comprehensive health insurance that is part of the reason the govt will not cover expenses... DUH!

The WIC is understandable.  Our coverage includes special formula coverage that is considered a prescription.  The social worker said that might exceed $600 a month for two premie infants.  If I qualified for WIC, WIC would pay for this formula not them.

I knew we don't qualify b/c we make too much money but they want the rejection letters on file before they pay.

  • Gah, I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I hate insurance companies too, I'm still dealing with issues from DS's birth, over 19 months later.
  • Oh goodness, that sucks.
  • SSI will be sending youa check every month for the twins...which your social worker in the NICU should have told you about sooner.  You will get anywhere from $30 to $100 I think.  They will also add you to the states insurance which should cover anything your insurance won't.  It was a pain but really helpful.  After B was released and we had to do our SSi exit interview they realized they weren't paying us enough, and sent a pretty hefty check.   The money is to go for their care but they will explain all that to you.

    Good luck!

OMG, do you have any idea how long it will take to get a SS disability acceptance or denial? It seriously took a year for my FIL. A freaking year.

  • Sorry for every month that they are in the NICU.  So you should get some back money.   I knew I was leaving some part out.
