Do You Shop Consignment?

Since DS was born i have bought a TON of stuff consignment (OUAC & CL)!! Granted, before DS was born, i considered that stuff to be "dirty", but i see how much of a deal you can get on practically brand new items!

I was talking to my pregnant cousin telling her to look on CL for baby stuff because you can get some really sweet deals, to which she replied "yeah your mom is always telling me about things on CL, but i want things that are brand new".

Umm...you work a PT job at sonics, and your boyfriend doesnt have the greatest job ever. you cant afford EVERYTHING brand new (she registered for a $200 swing and $150 high chair?!?)!

I bought her some onesies off CL, so hope she sucks it up, or atleast pretends to like them! :)

Re: Do You Shop Consignment?

  • I would never buy consignment as a gift, even if it had the tags still on.  But that's just me.  For myself, I have no problem buying something used/consignment.  I've ordered stuff on ebay that's new with tags.  I keep saying I need to make it to Once Upon a Child...I think there's one not too far away.

Shell - there is one at Foster and Harlem.  It is a tiny store but I have had a lot of luck both buying and selling there.

I love consignment shopping - recently a resale store was having fifty percent off of everything and I bought Tallen his entire fall wardrobe and snow pants for about $27! Love it - especially since they grow so fast!

  • I never buy retail clothes. All of our clothing is from outlets or thrift/consignment stores. I got 5 very gently used (a couple were even brand new with the tags still attached) outfits for DS as Savers yesterday for less than $15.

  • I buy stuff for DD at consignment. I agree though not for a gift.

  • We buy nearly all of our kids' clothes at consignment shops and garage sales.  You can really get some great deals.  They wear out and stain clothes so quickly that I just can't justify paying full price, especially being a one income family.  We try to save where we can.

  • Consignment is o.k. if you are just giving just to give (like hey, I picked up these cute things today) but not as a gift.  I don't shop consignment, but I would if I had the time and savvy.  I think it's great. DD has a little classmate who always looks amazing and her mom says her mother (grandma) and sister send these things down from a goodwill located right outside one of the most affluent areas where they live. sa-weet!

Thank you!  That's not too far from my grandparents either.  I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

  • I shop consignment all the time.  I find GREAT deals.  And if the item still had tags attached, you bet I would give it as a gift.  If I do buy retail, it's gotta be on sale/clearance.  BIG TIME.  I would say 85% of Jack's closet is 2nd hand clothing ... including his shoes (*GASP!*)
