NTR: I'm SO sick of BBQ VENT (edited title)

I seriously cannot stand BBQ.  It is the go-to food at most parties and I'm so sick of it.  I don't like it that much to begin with but the fact that it's EVERYWHERE is sooooo annoying.  News flash folks, there are other types of food!!! Just b/c this is the South, DOESN'T mean we have to serve BBQ for everything.

DH and I are helping hosting an afternoon shower for some friends and what do some of the other hosts suggest??  BBQ.  Really?  How original and for an afternoon shower????  Confused

I have been in the foulest mood the past couple of days and the BBQ suggestion set me off.  It's really not that bad and I'll eat and often times enjoy it...but OMG it gets old.

ETA: I changed the title...I don't hate BBQ...just so very tired of it being served at every event known to man

  • Wow, I have never seen someone with such a disregard for BBQ. :)
  • Chicken salad is betterBig Smile
  • a) you live in Alabama, it's not even REAL BBQ (jk!)

  • LOL!  Being a Texan I can sympathize.  It wrecks my digestive tract.  What I would do is say Great!  Bar-b-que sounds wonderful but lets add another option like grilled chicken or fish and lets not forget the salad Wink

  • I totally disagree - I love BBQ!
  • I pph BBQ food, but I guess I can kind of relate. We can only BBQ in the summer up here. So for all of our major events/parties it is the same darn thing usually. DH's family (puerto rican) has the same old spanish food. My family makes meatballs, ziti, or roast beef sandwiches.
  • oh southern i feel you....

i have a good idea. Do a Low Country Boil. it is SOOOOOOO good. You can throw in the pot whatever you want..but its mainly a mix of shrimp, corn on the cob, sausage, little potatoes, baby carrots...we put crap legs in it sometimes. then once its all cooked you throw it out on a big table on top of newspaper and everyone gets what they want! there is ALWAYS a ton of food.

I would give you a recipe...but my DH is the one who makes it. You will have to google it

  • Tell me about it.

We have BBQ at a bunch of company functions because our senrio muckedy muck is a BBQ whiz.

But it's always pork.  And it does look and smell delicious.  Too bad this JEWISH girl doesn't dig on swine.

  • Foul mood...Hhhhmmmmmm, maybe pregnant?!
  • First you don't like cars with eyes on them (see siggie Sad)

Now you don't like BBQ? Why don't you just kill me and be done with it. Broken Heart

  • BBQ is rough on my digestive track too. And I agree, here in Texas its served everywhere for everything. I've just learned to eat a little before I go, snack heavily on the appetizers and then serve myself a very small portion of meat and go heavy on the sides.
  • OMG, a Low Country Boil sounds soooooo freakin' good right now.

Yeah, the one time we didn't have BBQ at a company function...we had a low country boil.  Shellfish.  STILL not something this Jewish girl can eat.

  • I can only get "real" bbq once a year at the snapple big apple bbq, so I'm sorry, I don't feel sorry for you! Stick out tongue  I do remember this from my years in the south.  Well, there's always fried chicken! Mmmm!
  • What exactly constitutes BBQ?? I am just curious. Because a BBQ to me, means chicken, steaks, etc on the grill.

I realize I am also the person that never heard of a King cake until I came here, so please enlighten this northerner!!

  • a) i don't think i've had BBQ in several years

    b) every region has it's thing. i am sick of mini-food and mojitos served at every single party.  seriously, people. it's as big as a quarter but it's still a cheeseburger.
