Ok, not for a daughter. But, we have a friend who has a 10 year old son named Remington. He's a great kid and it works for him (he has a little sister named Roxy Jo) but I don't know if it's a name I would pick.
Maybe comprimise with another name that has to do with the outdoors. Me and DH are hunters. Try Gunner, Wesson, Archer, Hunter, Fisher, Bo (bow and arrow), etc. Or try names with meanings having to do with the outdoors.
Married 5/31/08 * TTC#1 9/09 - 2/11 after anovulatory diagnosis and TTC for 1 1/2yrs with several medicated cycles and one chemical pregnancy, we have our first bundle of joy!
IT'S A GIRL!
#2 EDD 2/5/13 dx with anti-BIG E antibody, seeing a MFM
I don't take one single minute for granted.
Sure, hunters may think it's a cool nod to a great gun, but some other people have really negative associations to guns. Not that you can please everybody, but if people are going to associate violence (or just think it sounds too macho) with a name, I'd keep looking.
I kind of like it and it has come up for both of our children but we ultimately decide against it. Too many other names out there and I dont' like Remi or Remy. I'd use it for a boy's mn.
What about Kimber?
Married my best friend on 5/14/05
Three Girls: Bits 2/08 Biscuit 10/09 & Sweet Chuck 2/12 One Favorite son: Suishy Smalls 6/14 And another Princess coming 7/16
I kind of like the name. It's intriguing...for someone else's kid. I would not name my child Remington. But it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me.
It should only be a boy's name...not good for a girl.
Like others, it also reminded me of the show Remington Steele. Pierce Brosnan can be a hunk at times; very Euro-swanky.
I like the alternative offered: Colton. (But I especially liked the post about naming the kids "Winchester, Glock, Sig and/or Beretta". Exactly what I was thinking.)
Sorry. No advice about how to persuade DH how to drop that name.
If you don't like it, don't name your child that. There's no need to change his mind--he only gets half the decision. That is a seriously stupid thing to name a person.
What do I think? I think it's atrociously bad. For a boy it's bad, for a girl it's seriously bad.
You don't need to change his mind. You get 50% say in what you name your child, so if you hate it, it doesn't fly. Same goes for anything he hates but you love.
My friend just named her daughter Remington for the same reasons your
husband likes it--she comes from a large ranching/hunting family. I
don't know--it's okay. They are going to call her Remy. Of course the
joke is that she's "quite a pistol"--get it??? Poor kid, stuck with the
same lame joke for the rest of her life!!

no, i would not compromise with remi/remy. i would find a new name.
Yes, and if you have another you can name him/her Winchester, Glock, Sig and/or Beretta if you like.

Bad for a boy, unthinkable for a girl.

Maybe for a boy but not for a girl.
People will certainly know your dh is a big hunting fan w/ a name like Remington!
What about compromising and finding a nice 1st name and using Remington as a mn?
Steven Remington
Matthew Remington
Samantha Remy
Elizabeth Remy
Just a few examples
1st thought is an electric razor
2nd thought is the 80s show Remington Steele

Horrible naming your child after a gun.
for a boy
for a girl
IMHO an ugly name and the reasoning behind the choice is awful
