How many times have you brought your dc to the emergency room?
I ask because Holden is over 8 months old and I have never brought him to the emergency room, but a good friend of mine has a 7 month old and they make a trip to the emergency room at least once a month it seems like. I make fun of her for it but I'm beginning to wonder if what she's doing is the norm for first time moms?
Re: Emergency Room question..
1 of my nephews/nieces went once by that age (ped's rec), one went several times (but was premature and had related complications), the other 2 did not go at all.

The closest I've ever gotten to taking Harper was last night (she has a stomach bug
) but we were able to talk to her pedi and she didn't think it was necessary unless she started becoming dehydrated.
My DH's sister has 4 very active little kids under the age of 7 and they've all ended up in the ER multiple times though
Never. I have thought about taking her to urgent care when I couldn't get her into a same day pedi appointment, but we never went because she was improving. I would only go to the ER for a tramatic injury, if it was the middle of the night and her fever was not controlled by motrin, or my mommy instinct kicked in and said, go to the doctor now.
My local ER is not a very good one, and doesn't know how to deal with children in general (everyone I know who has gone there, says the ER doctors call Children's in Tacoma to get advice on treatment). If I had to drive I would take her directly to Children's in Tacoma.
My step son went to the ER all.the.time. Most of the time it was his mother's need to have attention right away. Today, he still goes to the doctor for every little thing, and he is 19 year old.
Never, we were close once because we almost missed the closing time for our Ped but they snuck us in because they didn't want to send us all the way to childrens.
I have an employee who takes her kids in for EVERYTHING. We work in healthcare, she should know better.
TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.
We've taken DS1 one time and he's almost 3 and a half. We went only because he spiked a very high fever at midnight and had no other options for treatment at that time. We were out of state as well. Loads of fun (note sarcasm)...
We've never taken DS2.
Once, at 11 months, when Gabe had a febrile seizure at 6pm. I called 911, and after they came they said to bring him in. We haven't had anymore seizures, but if we did, I would not bring him in again unless it was a long one... I hate the ER.
Audrey, never... we did hit urgent care on a Saturday in Iowa for double ear infections in both kids... yeah, that was fun.
Call your damn pediatrician. That's why they have an answering service and the on-call doc will call you back. Sorry. I hate being in an ER, and hated that my baby who had a seizure couldnt be seen for hours because of all the stupid people in there because their kid had the sniffles. Give me a break.
DS has been twice in his 8 years, once at around 1, he was fine one minute then the next his ears started oozing gross slime out of them and he had started screaming and all of a sudden spiked a fever. It was after the walk in clinic closed. We went and sat in the ER for 4 hours before he was seen (Providence - Colby Campus) to discover it was a double ear infection that had ruptured. No signs of an ear infection before hand either. It freaked me out.
The second time was last August when he managed to slice his cheek open. 8 minutes after the walk in clinic closed. Blah. Total amount of time in the ER to get his cheek glued shut was about 45 minutes max (Providence - Pacific Campus).
For all you North end ladies - Pacific ER is the place to go. Waaaay less crowded then Colby (Colby is where all the aid cars go) and has NICU/Childrens capabilities.
1x and it was only after we called the answering service/after hours dr and they told us to go. (high fever)
We have been to urgent care 1x too. I found one open 'til 7 on a Sun night so we drove like mad to get there 30 minutes before closing. She dislocated her elbow and was unconsolable.
I actually called Ryan's Dr's office tonight since he is 1 month and has a 100.2 temp. We need to monitor and if it gets to 101 head right to the ER he said.
Go to the ER b/c his sleep habits have changed????? WTF?
Your friend is nuts.
