Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

S/O does you lo use a fork and spon

When you introduced utensils what kind did you use or start out with?

Re: S/O does you lo use a fork and spon

  • I don't know anyting about 'spon's' but we use forks and spoons :)

    Hee hee, I had to!

DD1 uses a fork like a pro, she is getting better with a spoon but is certainly not very useful with it yet. We started with both but she has the opportunity to use the fork a lot more aften because she does't eat anything in 'baby' form anymore except applesaucne and that is only the chunky kind!

  • You can introduce them when ever you want.  I have tried ever couple of weeks since around 10 months, and Lily really hasn't been interested until the past couple of weeks.  I think it might have to do with the fact that I bought her a pair of metal toddler utensils (with a plastic handle).

She is not very good and mostly uses her hands (or asks us to put the food on the fork or spoon for her, but is getting better.  She just ate a bow of yogurt at lunch for the first time ever today!  It was really cute.

There is no rush IMO.  They are going to grow up to fast as it is. :)

  • I have the Gerber utensils for her and she does pretty good with them but we've also graduated to letting her feed herself (supervised) with normal sized utensils (no knives obviously).  It's still a mess but we make a pretty big deal when she takes it from our hands and goes straight to  her mouth.  When she is done though she usually just drops it on the floor (food and all..ugh)
  • We use the Gerber Graduate silverware and Take and Toss silverware.  My DS is still very messy, but he really likes to try and is very proud of himself when he gets a mouthful.  It's very cute!
