Bed Sharing in cold weather

For those of you who have some experience with bed-sharing, how do you handle the colder weather?  DD is 3 months and has been sleeping with us since she was born.  She sleeps between us and we keep the covers down around our waists.  DH pulls some extra blankets up around upper body, but since I nurse and she tends to snuggle right into my side or belly, I'm without any covers and it's getting colder, here.  How do you keep your LO and yourself warm in winter?  I have sleep sack and am thinking I"ll just layer her and put her in that and we'll keep the room warmer than usual.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks!

Re: Bed Sharing in cold weather

  • I turn the heat up and DH & I have separate blankets.  That way we can both have full coverage on the blankets and the whole middle third of the bed is blanket-free for DS.  For him, I layer him and he's in a polar fleece swaddle blanket, so he stays pretty warm.

  • We also use separate blankets, and I sleep in a thin long sleeved shirt now, pulled up over my breasts.  I wear a tank bra to keep them covered.

It's still a little chillier than I like it (Iwould sleep with the covers over my head if I could!) but it works for now.  We also keep the heat up a little higher now that it is getting cold.

  • I'm hot blooded so I sleep in a tank and undies, regardless of weather.  DH layers because I freeze him out.  DD sleeps in a long sleeved t-shirt & wool longies.  We keep the covers at waist level.

  • I put the heat on 72, sleep in my nursing tank, and keep DS in light clothes. Since he's right up against my body, he is warm, and I don't want to overheat him more. I also keep a blanket at my waist, which is also DS's waist. Its a lightweight blanket, or just the sheet.
  • Halo sleepsack.

  • I read somewhere to put baby up near the head of the bed and have you/your partner farther down in the bed, that way you can have covers but there is no risk of the covers going over LO's face (maybe her legs but that's it).  Obviously if one (or both) of you is tall, this could be uncomfortable.  Also, when it comes time to nurse I have to move DS so we are lined up properly.

  • oh, sorry, i thought you were only asking about yourself.  for DS, he is in footed pajamas and eventually a sleep sack.

  • Our house is COLD in the winter... and its just starting to cool down at night. DH likes his blankets so he stays snuggled up on his side of the bed-- I just put blankets up to my waist and sleep in a warm, button-up thermal top so that I stay warm and have easy-access to the boobies (without the top being bulky -- the thermals I have are pretty fitted). I put DS in snuggly jammies and I used to use one of the SwaddleMe blankets just up to his waist (so his arms are free, but he's nice & warm).
