Today, a 26 year old sheriff's officer was killed. He was responding to a call that he expected to just have to write up a report about...and was shot in the stomach and leg. He went through surgery and sounded like he was going to be okay (via the local news), but ended up passing away. They said he has a wife and young child and was just on the department for a little over a year. I feel so sad and sick to my stomach over this.
My husband has a very dangerous job, but I'm pretty confident that a fire is not out to get him--it doesn't even care if he's there or not. And while he has to deal with the public almost as much as a police officer, (generally) I think people think of firefighters as 'good guys' and don't plan ambushes just to kill them. (As is suspected in the case from today). My hat is off to the wives of police officers...I don't think I could do it!

So sad... I have such amazing, amazing respect for the men and women who are brave enough to accept the calling to be a police officer, firefighter, soldier, etc. An equal amount of appreciation and respect goes out to their families - what a huge sacrifice to keep the rest of us safe. Thank you!!!
That is terrible. I have both family & friends who are police officers & it drives me *insane* when the media will lambast the cops for one thing or another. It is stories like this that I hope will make people realize that this is a job that puts lives on the line every second and we need to appreciate the men & women doing just that. Prayers for his family....
