Carseat/stroller quandary

I installed Collin's big boy carseat this weekend and am contemplating just taking the stroller out to Costco today, or should I bring the carrier, too?

Part of me is wondering if we did things too fast, but he HATED the infant seat and seems to tolerate this one more -- but now we have to hold him in a restaurant or where we go since he has no carrier. Do people use both? I am debating just taking the infant one to Florida since I could possibly use it on the plane.

If I do take him in just the stroller, I should recline it, yes? How old were your LOs when you took them without a carrier?

Re: Carseat/stroller quandary

  • Holden started using the big boy part of his stroller around 3.5-4 months, he loved it!  He was able to hold his head up and look around though so I didnt recline it, I dont think he would have enjoyed that as much because he couldnt look around..

  • It depends on his head control and how well he sits on his own.  I think at 3 months you should still recline it since his torso probably isn't strong enough to hold himself upright.

I would probably bring the infant seat and put him in that in the cart so you can actually hold groceries.  How else will you shop if you have the stroller?  Just pile stuff on him?

I would also take that infant seat on the plane not the big one.    I wonder why he hates the infant seat though?  Does sometihng poke him?  What do you think feels different to him?

  • Do you have a front carrier you can use while shopping?  I would take the infant seat for on the plane, much easier for traveling.

  • I would definitely take the infant seat on the plane. That way if there is a spare seat you can make great use of it & both you and Collin will be happy then!

WIth any luck he will be as comfortable as Cooper was on our trip to SFO where he slept the whole way - tough life hey!image

Good luck & remember Jen,it could be worse, I have the long haul flight to Australia next week!!!

  • We'll be switching Max to the big car seat soon as he is outgrowing the infant seat. I probably will just gate check it when we fly to Florida for New Year's as I can't imagine it would even fit in those little plane seats, even if we do score an empty seat. At any rate, I agree with putting the infant seat in the cart when you are shopping, or I still use the sling quite a bit for that, especially if it's a shorter trip. He gets heavy in there after a while, but it is really nice to have my hands free and I can push a cart, carry the groceries, etc much easier than if I am just holding him. I think we started using the stroller without the car seat around 3 1/2 months but did recline it.
