Baby Names

Back to the drawing board... Need suggetions

We had the name for our new baby boy narrowed down to 2 names that we liked, but were considering waiting until he got here to decide which one suited him.  Now, DH has decided he isn't sure about thise names and wants to reopen the name discussion and I am coming up blank, I need help!

As far as our naming style goes, DS1 is Nicholas Alphonse, he is named after DH, his dad and his grandfather, so naming him was easy.  DH's family is very traditional Itallian.  This time we would like to honor my side of the family and will use William (my maternal grandfather) or James (my dad and paternal grandfather) as the middle name.  My family is Dutch/German, but the first name doesn't necessarily need to reflect that.  For first names we want something that will go with Nicholas, that is pretty traditional, but can be a little trendy, but still sounds classic.  We want a name that sounds strong.

The names we had chosen were Andrew William and Landon James.  They aren't out of the running, but I guess DH just wants to make sure we are choosing the right one, ykwim?    The other day he suggested using William James, but I don't like Bill or Will as nicknames and he doesn't like Liam, so I don't think there are any other options for William, if there are enlighten me!  He has decided he likes Ryan, I am not crazy about Ryan just because I went to school with about a million Ryan's and Brian's so I guess I am just over the name.

I was a teacher before I had DS so I also have aversions to quite a few names just because of personality characteristics of former students, making it even harder to pick a name!

So, give me your best suggestions! TIA for the help!

... the first name that popped into my head was Isaac. I also think it sounds nice with Nicholas and would pair well with mn James.

  • Christian William is on my drawing board.
  • DH's cousin goes by William. I've never given it a second thought that he doesn't use a nn. I think William James sounds nice.

  • I would suggest Samuel James, Christopher James, Zachary William, Timothy James and Joshua William.
  • I love Andrew James or Andrew William--great names!

I also think Nathaniel (or Nathan), Christopher, Gavin, Justin, Joshua, Thomas, Matthew, Jonathan, Bennett, Evan, or Harrison would all be great names and go well with Nicholas.

    Good Luck!

  • Thanks everyone!  You have come up with some great suggestions that I hadn't thought of!  DH and I are going out to dinner tonight so I will give him your suggestions and see what he thinks.
  • Why does William have to have a nickname? Just call him William. It is a great name!
  • I really like Andrew William a lot.
