Rollercoaster while pregnant?

That just seems stupid to me.  Especially at 13ish weeks.  Maybe it's just me, but from the moment I found out I was pregnant I have been doing everything in my power to protect this little guy

Feeling reckless: Broke 2 PG rules last week!

-->

Had my NT scan and LO looks fine, but I was feeling reckless last week and did two things that are against the PG rules.

We went to Coney Island, NY, so I did my favorite two things--

1. Went to Nathan's original store and got hotdogs for lunch.

2. Rode the Cyclone Rollercoaster. It's been operational for 80+ years and closing on Sunday, so we rode it on the second to last day.

Rollercoasters and hotdogs! Whee, I'm a daredevil! Devil

How did you girls spend your weekend?

Re: Rollercoaster while pregnant?

  • Yeah, that's pretty dumb. What with all the signs telling you not to ride if pregnant...
  • Loading the player...
  • Wow the sad part is she is proud that she "broke the rules." I would never intentionally do something such as riding a roller coaster to be a daredevil when I know that it could be potentially  harmful.

  • Wow, and especially since she seems to have had so much trouble getting pregnant in the first place.
  • Who put hot dog in bold?  Because if that's being really reckless by eating a hot dog, then I've been super bad.  Stick out tongue

But yes, rollercoaster doesn't seem like the smartest thing.

  • Since its such an old coaster, its probably one that doesnt have loops or anything like that. I dont know, depends on the kind of coaster it is really for me, I wouldnt at this point of my pregnancy, but before we found out we got pregnant we had gone to a few parks and road some coasters. Eh. and hotdogs, thats not being a daredevil.

  • I just c&p her post.  She is the one that did all of the bolding in the post.

I've eaten plenty of hotdogs.  I was talking about the rollercoaster.

  • I asked my OB about riding rollercoasters b/c DH and I were thinking about going to six flags in June. ?The OB's response was that its sort of like a car ride - that sudden jerks and stops can cause placental abruptions and tears. ?Thats why amusement parks are so strict about it - they don't want to get sued in those cases. ?I decided not to go, because why risk it. ?I just don't?understand?the people who feel the need to brag about breaking pregnancy "rules." ??

  • It sounds like she just thinks its "cool" to break the rules and she is bragging.  I'd rather keep my baby safe!

  • Oops I meant to say car accident, not a car ride!

  • I hope the ride was worth the risk she put baby in... Hmm

I think it depends on who you are riding with...haha!  FIL is the jerkiest driver in the world.

  • That rollercoaster is really old, and therefore very herky-jerky. I think it was really stupid of her to ride on it.

  • What a moron.

But what really blows me away is that according to her sig, she had TTC, yet is still bragging about breaking the rules. You'd think that someone that went through the heartache of having fertility problems would do everything in their power to protect their child, particularly during the first trimester. Now an occasional hot dog or turkey sandwich is one thing, but a friggin' roller coaster? Did the giant picture of a pregnant woman with a red X on it not tip her off?

  • I totally agree and think it is CRAZY.. she's lucky enough to be pregnant.. sounds like she's a bit immature to want to "break the rules" and brag.  As for hotdogs.. stopped eating them years ago..after a nutritionist told me what's in them.. WAY before I ever got pregnant or was ready to be pregnant.. you really shouldn't eat them anyway, for YOUR health.. not just your baby's!

  • Good LORD, I went to Orlando at 9 weeks pregnant and I wouldn't even do the shows with the seats that jerked around at Universal Studios! I don't understand why she's so proud of herself.

  • I think the hotdogs were fine but definitely not the roller coaster!!! she could have torn something!
  • *popping over from 2nd tri, it's a slow day*

I had a dream last night about riding a roller coaster and I felt bad about it. I can't even imagine purposefully getting on one and putting your child through that risk. And then to post about it like she was proud if it! I will never understand some people.

oh, and the hot dogs are no big deal.

  • wow...  Yeah, she'll make a super mom if she's so excited about "breaking the rules!"

It's one thing to eat a hot dog or lunch meat or have a pop/venti latte/etc, etc. ... but the roller coaster one is too much for me.  Why would you risk it?  Would you throw yourself face-first down a flight of stairs?  Would you chug a bottle of tequila? ???  These things all fall in to the category of "things you just don't do while pregnant... unless you just don't care at all."  Things like caffeine and lunch meat... those are more of the "things you should cut back on, if needed" category.

  • I just don't get people sometimes. It's not all about YOU anymore and your whims... you have a child's best interests to consider.
  • Yikes!  She's crazy!  I hope nothing happens to her or her baby....totally not worth it!
