This weekend, we decided to let the babies sleep at night to see what they do. Friday they still woke up like normal (every 3 hours) and last night they stretched both their night feedings to 4 hours (woohoo)! Then I'm going to keep them eating every 3 during the day.
They currently eat about 3 1/4 ounces each feeding - sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less, but usually right on the nose. So I figure that's about 7 feedings a day so like 22-23 ounces of formula.
I've seen that you can figure out how much your baby should be eating by taking their weight x 2.5. If you do that with my (approximately) 7 pounders, it's only 17 ounces...so would my babies be eating too much perhaps? It seems like an extra 4 ounces is quite a bit considering their tiny sizes! Or is that "rule" pretty much not true?
For some reason this whole feeding situation totally stresses me out. I feel like I could really mess them up by overfeeding them/underfeeding them, throwing them off any kind of schedule or whatever - especially since we've been so lucky so far with them eating at the same time and everything.
Thanks!
Re: how much did/do your 1 month olds eat?
At one month our pedi recommended 24-26 oz. DD was taking 4 oz at a time then and DS only 3 oz.
Hi!
I havent been on much lately, hope you're doing well
I used to stress out about this but now just let them guide me. Mine, at 7 weeks (although 3 weeks adjusted) eat every 3 hrs on average even at night (WAH: ( ) and eat 2 1/2- 3 1/2 most of the time. DS eats 4 or a little more occasionally.
You're doing a great job & if they're growing that is all that matters!
