Just thought I would pass this along, this is valid for all Inova hospitals, and from what we were told all the area hospitals will be resticting visitors for the flu season. I understand the rationale, but I feel bad for the grandparents, aunts/uncles, brothers and sisters of new babies:(
All Units:
Adult Critical Care and Oncology Patients/Units:
? Visitors will be limited to spouses/significant others, parents or direct caregivers (son, daughter, or other immediate family member responsible for care) only
Women?s and Children?s Units (including NICU, PICU and Pediatrics):
Note: There may be exceptions to this policy in certain very limited circumstances, such as situations where a patient is at the end of life. In cases where exceptions are made, it will be at the discretion of the physician and the hospital leadership.
Re: FYI-visiting restrictions at area hospitals
**FYI, this new policy of restricted vistors begins Oct 1, 2009.** For me, this is big b/c we are going to the hospital tonight to be induced. I was just thinking of call my parents (who are out of town) and letting them know as they had planned to come up tomorrow for the induction.

They must be anticipating one hell of a flu season.
I haven't signed up for my flu shot yet, but I'm reconsidering (DD will be getting hers regardless).
"In addition, all maternity and pre-surgical tours have been cancelled for the duration of flu season"
This is a bummer. I was looking forward to seeing the maternity ward and being prepared before I got in there. Ah well.
Anyone have any info about VHC?
They are also CANCELING all Hospital Tours effective 1 October as well.
We had ours scheduled for next Monday and received the email over the weekend.

My friend just sent me this, and about all the visitor restrictions. I was going to call this week to set up a tour, but this is now crossed off the list
Run, Shivy, Run
I meant to say that it starts Oct 1st, although we were told "no later than Oct 1st" so I think there is potential for it to start earlier. We were also told the other hospitals in the area are expected to limit their visitation policies too.
We just did our childbirth class/tour over the weekend and they didn't mention any tour cancellations or visitor restrictions.
