How do you spell emerson for a girl name??

my friend is pg and she asked me and I have no idea.  Do you think of a boy or girl for Emerson?  And what is the spelling?

My DD is named Emerson.  My DH wanted to spell it Emmerson and I wouldn't agree too it.  I also know people who suggested spelling it with a y instead of an o.

"Emerson" and only "Emerson"....I cannot stand alternative spellings.  DD was a hot second away from being named Emerson.  And although it's a unisex name, I only like it for girls.
