moms of toddlers not in cribs...

Do your kids sleep in a bed that's made with tucked in blankets and all? DO they stay that way? I tried briefly with Ben but he pulled it all out - he's in a toddler car shaped bed if that makes a difference.

But he still thrashes around a lot. I see him sometimes sideways, upside down, etc.... And he loves blankets, and needs them, but then ends up with them off. And this morning he got up early and when I brought him back to his room it was cold in there - his new room is over the garage - and when I tucked him back in he slept for another 1 1/2 hours.

So, do your kids manage their own covers? OR should I go in and cover him up when I get up to pee at 4 AM? I figure I'm going to be up in th emiddle of the night for the next year, so I could go in and put blankets on I guess....

  • Sorry to butt in Jill, but when do babies start using covers?

  • maybe around a year we gave ihm a blanket in his crib.  But it never stayed on him.   And now he's nearly 3 and he still doesn't keep them on!

  • Mason is in his crib converted to a toddler bed.  He sleeps with one light blanket, I put it on him when I put him to bed.  Then when I go to bed I check on him and put it back on him.  I havent' tried it with them tucked in.  At my Mom's he kicks all the blankets off, and those are tucked in, he doesn't like it.

  • My kids stay with the covers wrapped around them. The bed is made like a regular bed, comforter tucked in the ends and such. Logan always kicks the sheet to the bottom but Liam loves being wrapped up. They both have a ton of animals in bed with them at the bottom and I think that anchors them a bit better. Plus they are in beds with rails (bunk beds). I think when they first started in beds they weren't as easy on the sheets and stuff. I still cover them up in the middle of the night when it is cold.

  • Cruz sleeps with about 4 blankets and 3 or 4 stuffed animals...seriously there is hardly any room for him in the crib!   He doesn't like them on him though because he wakes up way too hot...I keep our house at around 74 though so its not like he would get cold.

  • Oh Tif- 74!!  Can I move in with you PLEASE!!! DH gets mad at me when I go past 70. He grew up in a house that was a constant 64. I hate being cold.

Yeah, Ben's bed is full of stuff too!   And sometimes he'll be like "oh I forgot someone!" and we have to go look for some other guy to put in there.  :)

We haven't turned our heat on yet.  It'll be interesting to ese how that room does with the heat - it's farthest away from the furnace I think so it gets the air last.   This wonky weather has been so weird - since it seems stuffy when we go to bed, then it cools off so much overnight.

  • yes, but I had the same  question when 1st plannin on switching over.  When I ordered her toddler bed set, it came with a flat and fitted sheet, along with a comforter.  The flat sheet that came with it actually is fitted at the bottom, that way it stays tucked in.  (I LOVE that!)   The comforter too is fitted at the end so it also stays on the bed.  My Grandma made another flat sheet since you can't find them anywhere for the toddler size, but it's not fitted at the one end, and it really helps to keep the covers on, so I'm going to buy a fitted sheet and just have her cut off the top fitted part and hem a seam.  VOILA!    ;)

Audrey does sometimes end up sideways and the like, but we do go in and tuck her back in when we go to bed.  You could do the same when you get up to pee and/or change and feed the baby once he arrives.

I'll need to add a blanket for the winter.... I gotta find one that'll fit right.  hmm, maybe I'll ask my Grandma to make something again.....

What kind of blankets do you have on there now?

  • I had a fleece "throw" sized one on there b/c it could tuck in and was about toddler bed sized.  But he used it for about 2 weeks and then said he didn't want it anymore because "it is too good".  Whatever that means.   So now we're juts back to flannel baby blankets - like the big 42-45 inch square ones.  He likes those.  Those were his baby blankets and I think there's a bit of a lovey thing going on with them.

  • When Jack was in a toddler bed he had a little blanket over him but it wouldn't stay on.  When we converted his crib further to the full-sized bed, he got a top sheet and blanket.  They are tucked in and as soon as we did that, he stayed covered most nights.  I do check on him now when I'm going in to Cole's room and only periodically do I have to cover him back up.

  • I put Alex in the that toddler bed when he was almost 3 and with a blanket - but never tucked in.  He spun around and around, and no I never woke up and went in...I kept him in warm jammies and socks/slippers

Plus I never kept my house below 68 degrees - so never a problem
