Interesting verb usage from rednecks

Marsha got one of them. I like to never have got back out of it.

This is in reference to a post on FB about slings (not my post). Every single one of my relatives on my dad's side uses the word "like" to mean just about anything they want it to mean, but it never makes sense.

  • LOL!  I can hear the gene puddle bubbling up now.
  • I use the phrase "like to never......." and I have never considered myself or my family rednecks.

  • Yeah...I keep re-reading it, and I can't imagine it being non-redneck. Of course, I'm reading it in the voice of my cousin's husband, who uses this phrase at least twice while talking to him. Still, "I didn't think I would ever get it off" would make more sense than "I like to never have got back out of it."

  • Sadly....I understood perfectly what he was saying. Guess that comes from living in the south (although I would never say this myself)?

  • Ok, help me out, I've lived in Boston all my life Stick out tongue. I've read it a dozen times and have no idea what that means.
  • What the man was trying to say was that he didn't think he'd ever get the sling off. "Like to never" is a popular saying around here, but it's much worse in that area!

     ditto

  • Thank you for the translation!

I kept reading it and still had no clue. I thought he meant he couldn't get the baby out of the wrap.
