I'm wondering what I should be getting James for this winter-- did you/will you get your baby a snowsuit, a jacket, or both? I'm thinking both, but then maybe a jacket isn't necessary if he has a snowsuit. But, then again, I've read they're not supposed to wear snowsuits in the carseat. Is that true for winter jackets as well?

Re: What do I need for winter? Snowsuit? Jacket? Both?
What we have for DS is a combination of a jacket and snowsuit. It is full body and has feet and hand covers and a hood. It is cotton like a coat but not as thick as a snowsuit. They have them at JC Penny's but I got mine at a consignment sale. It looks similar to this..

Actually, this one is more like it as it is also cotton.

Snowsuits, puffy jackets, and carseats don't mix.
We used a carseat poncho (or something similar) and eventually ended up making our own to fit our needs better. Anyway, they fit over a regular or convertible carseat and keep the baby covered and warm when they're taken out of the seat.
If you plan to play out in the snow then yes, a snowsuit is in order probably.
