We have one by Summer, and really like it. It has a decent range, and the picture is clear. Now that DD is able to stand up and was trying to grab the camera or knocking it down, the camera is made so that we were able to hang the camera on the wall. It looks like this one:
I keep reading great reviews for the Summer. Everyone seems to say it's the best one around right now. We have the Mobicam from early 2007 and the picture quality has never been great, especially at night.
A friend of mine just went on Amazon and purchased a security camera. It does the exact same thing as a baby video monitor, but without the baby marketing, it was cheaper and actually had a clearer picture. I don't know what brand; she said there were tons to choose from.
We have two of the new summer total coverage kits with the 7" lcd color monitors, etc. that we just bought last month. It does work very well. We keep a handheld with the nanny and one of the lcd monitors in our room and another in the family room permanently. Once in a while, if there is a fan on or something the screen will get fuzzy, but overall it's very convenient. We put two separate cameras on babies crib so we can change the tv channels to see either side of the bed so if baby moves, we can use another channel to see his head, etc. It's expensive, but very convenient. We got ours at BRU, but I think costco.com has them now, but just not with the 7" lcd screens.

But ours is a hand me down, and it's not in color. It doesn't look like they even sell B&W anymore. I'm sure the current model is even better.

HTH
I just bought the Summer hand held portable one. My GF has it and loves it.
I didn't really want one that you see thru the TV - I was more interested in the portable one since I am always on the go when Jack is sleeping!
