Kitty and MLM

yep--we're on for the weight loss challenge.  Should we do it as percentage to goal wins or absolute number of pounds lost starting today?

My suggestion for the payoff:  The 2nd and 3rd place "losers" send the winner a really cool accessory, fashion item, etc. to celebrate the "new you"  The item can be no more than $20.

Re: Kitty and MLM

  • Can I get in on this? I would really love a friendly competition. I have about 6 more pounds to get to my first mini goal weight, and then ideally I want to lose another 20 after that. So I'm fairly evenly matched to you three.
  • Sounds good to me!  How about a gift card of the winner's choice?
  • Loading the player...
  • That sounds good to me.  But I'll need suggestions...pretty sure we won't all have the same taste!

I say percentage since I'm sure we are all in a different weight range.  My gaol is 30 lbs total.  By thanksgiving I will set it at 20.  I can't lose 30 lbs in 8 weeks!

  • Sure Dai, jump on in!

Just to clarify on you 4Speedy - is it a $20 combo between the losers or a $20 from each loser?  I like the $20 from each loser idea.

  • Ugh - I so wish I could join in.  If anyone has a lot of weight to lose (like 100ish pounds) and wants to do this with me separately, let me know!
  • I say just the number of pounds lost since we all are different weights, have different goals.
  • I agree with the percentage thing since we're not all in the same place, and also with the gift card. $20 from each sounds good. That's good motivation for me, anyway.
  • M&M, I vote for the more the merrier because if we decide on the $20 from each for the winner, that's a huge incentive.

Of course, there is the idea of splitting everyone up into two's or three's if enough people jump on board.

  • OK, so I am going to go "hog" wild (pun intended) this weekend, and kick into high gear on Monday.  We all need to set a goal to reach by Thanksgiving, and pick a day to check in each week.

Also, if someone can tell me how to hook myself up with a ticker that would be fab.  I want one that shows what I want to lose...no way I'm putting my actual weight out there.

  • I have an idea - how about depending on your place is how much you have to give the winner:

    2nd place - $10 GC

    3rd place - $20 GC

    and so on

That will provide the motivation to not only win, but to still work hard even if you know you won't get first place.

And how will we make sure that no one is cheating? Do we need to submit un-doctored pictures of the scale once a week?

  • M&M, you aren't going to lose that much by Thanksgiving...just set a goal for then and work toward it.
  • That could work Dai..

    The loser pays the winner

The second loser pays the second winner

The third loser pays the third winner - provided we get six people

4Speedy, me, mlm, dai, m&m, so we'll need someone else.

My goal to get to 110 is not aimed at any particular time - I'm working hard on it but not pushing too hard.  I don't want to lose too quickly.  I think we should just go by number of pounds lost by thanksgiving.  ??

  • That's fine by me.  You can set up a scale for who pays who what as well.

I would hope no one was going to cheat, because you'd only be lying to yourself anyway!  I think we have to go on the honor system.

  • We can take a pic of the scale with the date set on the camera showing feet.  Or not.  Makes no difference to me, I think everyone will be honest.
  • Or if we have five ppl - the third loser IS the third winner so they get nothing! LOL

My goal is longer-term too, like I'd like to be at my final goal by the end of January. I think we should make it one of two things: 1) number of pounds lost by thanksgiving compared to your final goal, or 2) number of pounds lost by thanksgiving

With the second one someone who has a overall 45 lb goal can compete with someone who's goal is only 25 pounds. Basically, it would be like my overall goal is 25 pounds, and if I lose 5 pounds that 20%. Someone else who has a goal of 45 pounds but loses 10 pounds is 22%.

I think that way would be better b/c the closer you are from your final goal, the harder it is to lose pounds. This levels the playing field.

  • camrude can be our sixth?
  • Oh God - I didn't think that I would lose 100 pounds by Thanksgiving - I'm not that crazy!! :) I'd love to join in though, as long as you don't mind that I have a ton to lose (literally). I don't honestly know how the goal weight thing will work though - I don't know what a realistic goal is to lose overall because I don't know what my "ideal" weight is.
  • Can I get my fatass in on this?
  • Hey, the more fat asses the better.
  • I say go by number of pounds lost by thanksgiving starting now.  I started WW July 24th at 165 and want to get back to 110.  I have no idea how long it could take me to lose what.  Ideally I could set my goal to lose another 20 by Thanksgiving but if life gets in the way and we're invited to dinner at someone's house, or a party or invited out to a restaurant, regardless of trying to maintain control, we would eat what we're served in order to not be rude.  That can be a set back so I think making a goal weight to lose by Thanksgiving is a bad idea and therefore blows the % thing, right??
  • By the way, I suck at number, especially percentages.  You'd never know I was a bookkeeper.

Hey, the more fat asses the better.

LMAO!  Oh my I love you!!

  • Number of lbs is cool.  Add Mamarazzi to the list.  I did not weigh myself today, so i'll need to start Monday, but I'm fine with that.  Not like I was losing 5 lbs over the weekend!

How about we all check in Monday, and then do first check in the following Monday?  We can chat during the week for support/competition but actually weight check ins on Mondays?

  • No, no - you're not setting a goal by thanksgiving, you're setting your overall goal. Like mine would be to lose 25 pounds by end of Jan. Yours is to lose 35 pounds by say march. Someone else's goal might be 10 by December. That's how we make it even - we take a percentage of your goal (no matter when the goal is, or when it is) and we set a stop time - Thanksgiving. The person who loses the largest percentage of their goal, wins.
  • What if instead of % of total goal weight, we just do % of total starting weight. So if I weighed 200 pounds at the beginning, and I lost 20 pounds, that would be a 10% weight loss. But if I weigh 140 and lose 14 pounds, that is still at 10%. God I wish I would lose 20 pounds!

The reason why that's not as fair is b/c the closer you are to your ideal weight, the slower you lose weight. So someone who has 20 pounds to get to their ideal at 140 will lose faster than someone who has 7 pounds to get to their ideal at 140. Different heights have different ideals. That's why I think the percentage of overall goal makes things as even as possible.

  • This is becoming too much work.
  • Don't worry - I got this. When we get things ready to go on Monday, every one can email (SP whatever) me their overall goals and their starting weight. I'll keep an excel spreadsheet and update every monday at check-ins.
  • M&M--I also would love to lose about 100 lbs....I'm a fatty McFatty (not saying YOU are..I am though)

I'd love to do a challenge with you.

    Dai--I sent a PM

Also the problem with percentage of goal....maybe I have 100 to get to my ideal...but I set my goal for 10 lbs....well shoot, I could be at 100% by October 3rd....or what if several people get to 100%....

  • You're not setting a goal for thanksgiving - you're setting an overall goal: 100 pounds. The only thing that thanksgiving has to do with it is that we need a stopping date.
  • Just so I'm clear here, you're the only one that will know exactly how fat my ass is, correct?

if that's the way you want it, yep, you can privately send me your numbers each week and I will track them

  • Alright - so how do I realistically set a goal when I'm so far from my "ideal" weight I don't remember what my ideal is?  I've had two kids since being any where near my ideal weight, so that would throw it off too.

  • I'm in once I have my thyroid crap figured out.?
