3rd Trimester

BH/diarrhea question TMI

OKAY here it goes:

I woke up this morning at 6 with diarrhea & have had it all day. I didn't think anything of it, just that I ate something that upset me. WELL I was talkin to my SIL & she was like "are you having contractions?" I happened to be having BH I guess - my whole stomach would get really hard - but I couldn't time them. On top of that I've had lower abdomen/back cramps which I'm assuming are from my GI problems. The reason she mentioned it was because with both of her kids she had diarrhea before going into labor.....

SO I called my OB/Midwife & talked with a nurse & she said "well I would tell you to go to L&D but they are SWAMPED so let me talk to the Dr. & see what she says." They called back & said if I had more than 6 contractions in an hour to head to L&D.

My question is that all night since then I've felt my stomach get super, super tight - but not painful- more than 6x an hour. I feel like I should wait until I'm in pain to go in. I told my DH I was going to lay around, watch Grey's & see how I felt later tonight. Any thoughts/insight/suggestions? Hmmmmmm......so confused.

Re: BH/diarrhea question TMI

  • You should probably listen to the doc.  Unless you have a staff of nurses and nicu equipment laying around your house, it isn't the time to mess around with contractions.

  • If it was me I would go. Just cause in the back of my head I would be anxious to find out if somethings going on!

LOL well ACTUALLY.....this totally made me laugh.

    But I totalllly agree.

  • Those are the exact symptoms I had the night before my water broke at 35 weeks.  My contractions did not hurt until I was put on Pitocin for a few hours.  Go to L&D!!!!
  • if your doc says go, you should go.  You could easily be dehydrated if you have diarrhea...dehydration can cause contractions.  This happens to me a lot.  Drink plenty of water

  • I'm in the minority here but I would wait it out a few hours.  I personally wouldn't go to L&D based on an hour of BH contrax.  Are you sure you aren't dehydrated?  You very well could be from all the diarrhea.  I would drink a gallon (seriously!) of water, lie on your left side for a few hours and if you still are having them then go.  But that's just me! ;-)
  • I've been having soft stool for the past week and diarrhea the past two days but w/o any stomach pains.  I've noticed more BH lately but nothing to write home about.  Nothing painful or timeable either.  We have our weekly dr's appt tomorrow morning.  Glad to see there's someone else w/my symptoms!
  • If you were further along, I would say wait it out.  However, you are still pretty early so I would play it safe and go in.  Won't hurt to get checked out just to make sure nothing is happening.  If you are in labor, it is better to get there early so they can try to hold it off as long as possible.
