3rd Trimester

Can you imagine going to 46 weeks?

During birthing class last night our instructor was talking about a client of hers that was totally against inducing and her doctor let her go to 46 weeks before insisting they induce.

She went on to have a 10lb baby.

Would you ever let yourself go to 46 weeks?

  • Hell no!

    Is that even safe??.....?

  • eh, at that point? What's one more week. I went to 42 and would have kept going if not for my child weighing 11 pounds
  • Nope. It is not healthy. The placenta starts to deteriorate. I don't know how that woman possibly had enough amniotic fluid to last that long!
  • No.  Maybe if I wasn't miserable already.  Plus even at this point I'm worried something will go wrong in there while I'm waiting for him to come out.
  • WHAT??!!  That sounds made up.  No way would any doctor allow that.  The placenta would have disintegrated by then!!  Plus, if that did happen, how was that baby not larger than 10 lbs?  Hmm
  • I'm pretty sure that there are risks for going that late.  If you go too long, the placenta starts to break down and baby isn't getting all of the nutrients needed.

Heck no!  I would ideally like to be induced at 41 weeks, but would go to 42 weeks if that's what my doctor wanted.

  • hell no, i'm thinking induction at 39 if this child is that big! YIKES!

  • Never!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Holy Moly!! I am all about the intervention free birth, but NO WAY! My MW  won't even let you go more than 42...

  • I would absolutely not! It's not even because of comfort or convinience either, it's not safe in any capacity. 42 weeks is pushing it but I'd go that long because due dates can be up to 2 weeks either way and would make more sense. I would never go an additional month and a half.
  • I would never let myself go that long or fight my doctor about it. I would be worried about the health of my child past 41 weeks or so.
  • It just makes me wonder if her dates were truly accurate.

Seriously. I have to think that woman's dates were wrong -- I have a hard time believing a baby that was 6 weeks overdue was "only" 10 pounds.

  • My son was 10 lbs 2 oz at 41 weeks.  I went into labor on my own, though.  I can't imagine 46 weeks.

  • That is extremely unsafe b/c the placenta stats to break down after so many weeks...WOW!  That's horrible! And no, I would NEVER go that long--even if I was against being induced!

  • Hell NO after 41 I would calling it quits because I would want to see my LO
  • I can't imagine!  With our daughter, they scheduled an induction at 41 weeks and 1 day.  I ended up going into labor on my own on the induction date and was glad we didn't try to wait any longer.  Aside from being a large baby (9 lbs 6 oz), she had already produced some meconium and it really wasn't safe for her to be in there any longer.  I can't imagine how big she would have been if she'd been in there for a few more weeks!
  • 42 was my limit - that was torture!
