At my appt yesterday my MW said they want everyone to now, and even though I'm due in 16 days and on bed rest so I don't come in contact with a lot of germs to get one. She said there will be tons of germs in the hospital and it helps to be prepared...
Last year I got my first flu shot ever and had the flu for 4 days within 24 hrs, I have a crappy immune system.
So, what are you doing?
Re: 38+ Weekers - Are you getting the flu shot?
I'm not 38 weeks, but another point that my midwife made to me is newborns can't get a flushot that young so it will help prevent you from getting it even after the baby is born so you won't get it and pass it on to the baby, so she recommended that I get it as well as my husband.
I didn't mean to imply it caused the flu, I meant that I got it right away, there are different strains and the vaccine doesn't cover them all...

I've never had a flu shot, and I've never had the flu. Don't plan on messing with things now. No way.
My OB hasn't even brought it up.
My OB offered it on the way out of the office today. I said no thanks. If she had volunteered any kind of information on it, or said "I really recommend this", I may have considered. I've never gotten one before, and I don't really know anything about it, so as of now, I have no plans to get it.
Does anybody know where I can find information on this, or is it just something my doctor should tell me about?
I got mine with my dr's office and declined it until I got proper information. You can get information about the flu shot and it's reccommendations for pregnant women from any health department or hospital or from the center of desease control at this website. https://www.cdc.gov/FLU/protect/keyfacts.htm
Basically what the flu vaccine does for you is it gives you an immunity to the strains that the CDC predicted to be the most dominant strains. Therefore, it won't protect you against all strains. There are some side affects including mild flu-like symptoms but they should not be anything as severe as the actual flu and should only last for about 24-48 after the shot. This also creates kind of a barrier for baby since infants cannot receive the flu shot by making you immune to certain strains and DH if he should happen to get the shot also. Hope this helps
