(This recipe comes from the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital for overweight heart patients who need to lose weight, often prior to surgery)
Here is the recipe for the soup: 1 pkg. of Lipton vegetable soup mix, 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (stewed or crushed), 3 large green onions, 1 large can of (sodium-reduced) beef or chicken broth, a bunch of celery, 2 green peppers, 1.5 lbs. of carrots and 2 good handfuls of fresh green beans or 2 cans of green beans. (I forgot the beans in my soup - but oh well)
Bring water and soup mix to a fast boil for at least 5 minutes. Add veggies. Reduce heat and simmer until veggies are tender. You can season soup with salt, pepper, curry, parsley, boullion or hot sauce. (I didnt add any additional salt - as the canned tomatoes have tonnes of salt already, as does the soup mix. I dont like cellulite :P)
Eat the soup whenever you feel hungry. The point is not to be hungry on the diet - it wont add calories. Take a thermos with you if you're gone during the day. DRINKS: Drink lots of water! Also, unsweetened fruit juice, tea, cranberry juice, skim milk, black coffee. No Drinky Friday this week - you cant have any alcohol on this diet! By the end of the 7 days, if you havent cheated, you should have lost at least 10-17 lbs.
Day 1 - THE SOUP AND ANY FRUIT YOU WANT EXCEPT FOR BANANA. CANTALOUPE AND WATERMELON ARE LOWER IN CALORIES. EAT ONLY THE SOUP AND FRUIT TODAY.
Day 2 - THE SOUP AND ALL VEGETABLES TODAY. EAT UNTIL YOU ARE STUFFED WITH FRESH, RAW OR CANNED VEGETABLES. TRY TO EAT LEAFY GREEN VEGGIES. STAY AWAY FROM DRY BEANS, PEAS AND CORN. EAT VEGGIES ALONG WITH THE SOUP. AT DINNER, REWARD YOURSELF WITH A BIG BAKED POTATOE WITH BUTTER. DO NOT EAT ANY FRUIT.
Day 3 - EAT ALL THE SOUP, FRUIT AND VEGGIES YOU WANT. DO NOT HAVE A BAKED POTATOE. IF YOU HAVE EATEN AS ABOVE FOR 3 DAYS, AND HAVE NOT CHEATED, YOU SHOULD HAVE LOST AT LEAST 5 LBS.
Day 4 - SOUP, BANANAS AND SKIM MILK. EAT AT LEAST 3 BANANAS AND DRINK AS MUCH MILK AS YOU CAN TODAY. ALONG WITH THE SOUP, BANANAS ARE HIGH IN CALORIES AND CARBOHYDRATES AS IS MILK, BUT ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY YOUR BODY WILL NEED POTASSIUM AND CARBS. PROTEINS AND CALCIUM LESSEN CRAVINGS FOR SWEETS
Day 5 - SOUP, BEEF AND TOMATOES. (YOU CAN SUBSITUTE THE BEEF FOR BROILED, BOILED OR BAKED CHICKEN) YOU MAY HAVE 10-20 OZ. OF BEEF AND A CAN OF TOMATOES OR AS MANY AS 4 TOMATOES ON THIS DAY. EAT THE SOUP AT LEAST ONCE TODAY.
Day 6 - SOUP, BEEF AND VEGGIES. EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT OF THE BEEF AND VEGGIES TODAY. YOU CAN EVEN HAVE 2-3 STEAKS IF YOU LIKE, WITH SOME GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES. NO BAKED POTATOE. NO FRUIT. BE SURE TO EAT THE SOUP AT LEAST ONCE TODAY.
Day 7 - SOUP, BROWN RICE, UNSWEETENED FRUIT JUICE AND VEGETABLES. AGAIN, BE SURE TO STUFF YOURSELF AND ALSO EAT THE SOUP. YOU CAN ADD COOKED VEGGIES TO THE RICE IF YOU WISH.
Good luck!!!!!!! I know it works because my mom has good results with it. And its healthy and you dont have to go hungry.

It is a quick diet - its up to you if the weight stays off...?!
I'm doing it for a good head's start. I have a gym membership as well.
This is the first time i've been on a fad or crash diet. I ALWAYS eat healthy.. but my portions are often too large
I dont think it looks unhealthy at all.
I'm not sure how long it will last - I just followed the recipe. It could be good for a week, i guess it depends how much of the other food items you eat. I'm guessing my pot of soup will be good for about 4 days or so?? I guess I'll have to see.
This seems like a terrible idea for BFers, for the baby's sake.
