Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Feel like a failure

My 14 month old wants to held constantly, won't eat, and stopped sleeping at nights.  I feel like I'm failing at being a mom of a toddler.  Eating, sleeping, being independent are all very important things and she does none of them.  She has 4 teeth, could this just be a teething phase?

Re: Feel like a failure

  • Sounds like it could be teething. How old is ds? Could it be some normal reaction to the new baby?

  • Whenever DS has a phase like this, it's usually because he's sick or teething.  Can you try giving motrin or Tylenol to see if it helps with the sleep a little?  If it does seem to help, then she's probably not feeling well and that's some reassurance that she just needs some extra attention.  I hear you though, it is exhausting when they are like that!

  • this screams regression to me...she is probably just trying to get your attention...it may be teeth too, though...my DS gets out of wack with teeth...i wouldnt be worried :)
  • Don't be so hard on yourself!  Sounds like teething to me.  We had a really rough few weeks while her molars were coming in.
