Any truth to height predictions from 2 yr old stats?

DS was 24 lbs and I missed his height but the pedi did a height prediction and came up with 5'8 or 5'9 for full adult height.  DS is a peanut.  Any truth to these?

Well in our case, umm, no.  Pedi said by the charts dd would be close to 6ft.  I'm 5'2 and dh is 5'6.  So, yeah not happening.  My brother though is 6'4 so ....we can hope for a bit of height.

oh gosh, I sure hope not!! DS doesn't stand a chance.  He will be 3 in Jan and still can't ride any rides at the local fair

Based on the 2 yr prediction, my DD will be 5'8"  DH and I are both on the very low end of average so it's not likely our DD would be that tall.  My pedi gave us the prediction but also told us it's not usually likely a child will outgrow their genetics.  So my DD had probably just had a growth spurt that threw the prediction off. 

If you and your Dh are tall, who knows, maybe your son will be tall, too, since it's in his genes.

DH is avg (5'10) and I am really short (5ft).  My dad is 5'8-5'9 tho.

how do they calculate this?

we did the height predictor on babycenter.com and it seemed to be right on. it calculates dh's and my height to get ds's height. im 5"9 he is 6"1 it predicted ds to be 6"4 i think?

He only had DS's 2 yr old height.  Not mine or DH's.    I am not sure how though.  I am thinking its just for fun...

I am 5'9" and my DH is 6".  DD was predicted to be 5'1" at 2.  She is very short compared to her peers, but this is not a problem for her.  I would like for her to be 5'2", just because it is safer. Under 5'2" actually shortens life expectancy because of accidents.

Doubtful.  My 2-year-old stats probably would have put me as tiny (5'1") as I am, but it would have said my brothers and dad would be short as well.  All three of them are over 6 foot.  Dad was the second to shortest in his graduating 8th-grade-class and 3rd to tallest in his graduating high school class (and about 6'2"). My brother was a peanut like me.  He was even shorter than I was until we hit high school.  (He's two years younger.)  He's now 6'1" at 27 and that definitely wouldn't have been predicted at his two-year appointment. 

ETA - Babycenter says DD#1 should be about 4'11" at age 18.  I hope she's taller than that.  I do have some aunts and a grandmother who were about that size, but I'm guessing she'll at least top 5 feet (though she might be close to 18 when she finally does it).

For the twins, their ped says DD will be 6ft and DS will be closer to 7!

Their birthparents are 5'11 and 6'9, and they have bio siblings in college who are well over 6 foot so I think this is a real possiblity for them!

I know the predictions our peds made for my bros and I were pretty much right on...

Our ped said for girls, you double the height at age 2 and boys it's age 2 1/2.

For my grown kids (20's now) it was pretty accurate.  It said my DD would be 5'7" and she is 5'7 1/2" and my DS would be 6'4" and he is.  Im 5'8" and my DH is 5'10".  Neither of us have anyone in our families that are over 6 ft so we are attributing to the hormones in all the milk he drank as a kid!
