XP: Describe your little ones reflux

I am beginning to wonder if dd#2 has some reflux issues. She is taking breastmilk almost exclusively from a bottle. She spits up- ALOT! sometimes it is so much I have to change my shirt. It doesn't seem to bother her, but the spit up is curdled and sour smelling. She also will grunt/struggle drinking sometimes, but when I burp her, shes better- so is that reflux or is she just a "happy spitter"?! Thanks so much!

  • Oh bummer,  I hope she doesn't have relux. I think typically they do a lot of arching, pulling away from the bottle/breast, and have trouble gaining weight. We tried G with prilosec for quite a while with great success.
    Good luck!

  • Aw...thanks! You have some beautiful girls yourself!
  • Both my boys had reflux.  Neither one spit up much - I think it just came up enough to burn the throat and then went back down.  Once he was crawling, Alex would spit up quarter sized spots everywhere, but I think that had to do with movement.  Anyway, both boys also gained weight really well, and in fact I think Adam ate more as a way to temporarily soothe the pain, which only made it worse in the long run.  Both boys hated sleeping flat on their backs and Alex would arch his back away from bottles. Both went on Zantac, which did crapola, and then Prevacid, which worked wonders.

Avery, on the other hand, sounds more similar to your dd.  She never fussed or arched or minded being on her back, but she was like a freaking volcano ready to erupt at any time.  When she let loose, look out - she and I would both need a full outfit change. She was a happy spitter.

    Does that help?

  • dd spit what seemed like gallons a day. But she'd spit and then scream bloody murder. Never had trouble gaining weight that is for sure but she was definitely in pain. Zantac did squat here too but Prevacid did wonders. If she doesn't seem bothered by it than I'd call her a happy spitter.
