Circumcision Tomorrow

We go to the Ped's office tomorrow morning for DS's circumcision.  I know that they will give us care insutructions before we leave, but if anyone has any tips I would really appreciate the advice!

Re: Circumcision Tomorrow

  • You will need A&D ointment, and tiny square gauze pads....put a dab of ointment on the gauze pad and place that on his wound...to keep it from hitting and sticking to the diaper.  We had to do this until completely healed...which took about a month.  I think we ended up using at least 100 gauze pads...Target's got them cheap.  Like $1 for 10 I think?

  • My DS healed pretty quickly. We were just instructed to put petroleum jelly and gauze on the tip of his penis after each diaper change.
  • After the circumcision is completely healed, be sure that you pull down the skin on the base of the penis and clean and wipe really good around the tip/base of the penis. If you don't, the smagma can make the skin grow back together and get re-cut. :(
  • Get the gauze that has the wider weave.  We had this more expensive gauze (more like a non-stick pad) and it sucked.  The kind they use at the hospital is best.  Also, try and find petroleum jelly in a tube instead of the tub.

  • ugh, not gonna lie, it was awful. I think the older they are the worse it is. My dr said to just put the vaseline on the diaper, but I thought the gauze was much easier. After the first day it was fine, but the night it was done was horrible. Good Luck
  • We never got instructions from the hospital, so make sure to ask just in case.

We just slathered it with Vaseline and pretty much left it alone. No gauze. ?

  • Every diaper change we just put a big glop of vaseline on it... (DONT rub it on... just drop it without touching the penis)

While it looks absolutely awful at first... our DS looked perfect after about 4 days.

Also not sure if this applies or not as we had ours done in the hospital when LO was 2 days old... he slept for hours afterward and they warned us he would... so don't stress if he does!

  • our ped did the "plastibell" method...they use a little plastic ring and it just falls off by itself, no extra care needed.  maybe find a ped that does that method
