Last night at work (I waitress), these parents let their kid (2 maybe 3 years old) have two kids cups of Coke at like 9:30 pm with their dinner! To me, this is insane!!! I would never let my young child have soda especially so late at night.
I hope I wouldn't, but I guess I can't say never. Most likely, no, especially 2 glasses - I don't even have 2 glasses of soda. Every once and great while? Maybe. At 9:30 at night? I can't imagine I'd have my kid out that late, but there may have been some circumstances we don't know.
Coke? No. Especially at night. But we keep hansen's soda in our house for special treats, and I've let them have sprite occasionally...and I am a total health freak. I would have definitely judged when I only had one kid, and he was still young.
I have a 2.5 year old and I can say no, I wouldn't. DD gets a sip of our soda (usually root beer or sprite) here and there as a treat, but I'd never give her a coke and never her own. Those parents must have wanted to stay up all night!
Absolutely no way in hell, I waitress 1 day a week at the restaurant I have worked at since I was 16. I am suprised at how many parents actually let their toddlers have soda.

Yes, DD has had soda - Sprite or Sierra Mist. And I feel sure if we were out to dinner at 9:30 she would most likely get that or juice. It's a here and there thing....not a big deal.
We don't drink soda, so there ain't no way I'm going to serve it to my child!! I understand that he'll have soda eventually (at a friend's, etc), but I'm not going to be the one to give it to him.
I can't believe any parent would give Coke to their child!! There is nothing 'good' about that drink - it's full of sugar, caffiene, it's bad for your teeth... I don't get it.
No, and part of the reason is that I do really drink soda, and neither does DH. And at that age in particular, there is no reason for the child to have soda (let alone be out to dinner at the hour!!!)
We were out to breakfast one morning and the family at the next table had to kids, maybe 4 and 6. They ordered them the kids pancakes, so they had an M&M smiley face.Ok, that is fun. But them each kid got a mountain dew with their pancakes. And they were bouncing all over the place. A. i think it is inappropriate for the age of the kids, and B. what ever happened to good old orange juice or even chocolate milk??
Our 3 1/2 & 6 year old have probably had soda 5-10 times in their life, only on special occasions. And when we do let them have it, it's a very small amount (4-6oz) and it's caffeine free- always.
For the most part, anything is OK in moderation, in terms of food, IMO.
While I wouldn't judge other parents for doing it, I would never ever give my children pop - whether at 2 or 14. They will not be drinking it in my house.
No, I would not. ?2 and 3 is really young. ?I don't know when I'll let my kids drink it, and I'll cross that bridge when I think the time is right. ?But 2 and 3 is certainly not it!
I can't say never. I will admit it, I love an occasional can of Coke. It know it has no nutritional value, but damn it, it tastes good. And it got me through many a rough morning when I was pregnant (apparently, I have already given DD Coke, at least in utero. hmmm).
So I will try my hardest to avoid giving my children soda (which means avoiding it myself), and certainly try to avoid it at 9:30 at night, but I'm a firm believer in never saying never.
Maybe occasionally as a special treat. I won't judge seeing other parents in public doing it. You don't know their circumstances or why they were out that late. Maybe they were traveling, maybe the pop was the only thing that would get the kids to sit still during dinner, etc.

Not until she's at least 2, and even then it will be stuff like sprite and root beer. I won't judge other people UNLESS they are doing it under 1 year old and for dumb reasons...but I've posted about that already today haha.
I used to drink soda when I was little. There is a pic of me at about a year "stealing" a drink of my Dad's RC. I also used to drink soda late at night. However, my bedtime used to be midnight, since my dad worked nights and my mom worked days (and they still do). It is the only way everyone can eat together.
Since DH is a chef and works nights, DS has dinner around 9 or 10 and goes to bed at around 11:30 after his dad comes home. People have criticized us for being at Walmart or a restaurant with a baby so late at night and it is getting really irritating. (sorry, had to vent)

meh - I think if you're out at dinner at 9:30 at night w/ toddlers you're probably not winning parent of the year to begin with.
Yikes. Some kids are flexible and can be out late. DH works nights and at times, we have kept a late schedule so we can spend more family time together. . Right now, we're usually in bed at 8, but for most of their lives, they've been night owls/late sleepers, and it would not be weird for us to be out at 9:30 at all.
I can't say never. If we are out DSS will have a Sprite or Root Beer. He gets one glass/no refills and only once per day. He is 6 1/2. I love me some Coke. I can't drink diet (aspertame gives me migraines). We also are night owls. I generally don't have my baby in Wal-Mart at 11:00 at night but we have eaten at 8:00 before. He's fine.
However, I did judge the father, sitting next to us last night, that was giving his maybe 4 month DD Mountain Dew out of his straw.
We keep coke in the house, but we usually keep it for his dad who loves coke.
I will also drink it if I get a migraine because it helps with the meds and stuff.
Right now our DD who is 2.5 drinks either water or milk. If we go out to eat we usually get unsweetend ice tea or water. I am okay with her drink a couple of sips of the tea.
She has also had a couple of sips of my lemonade or sometimes if I am bad a sweet tea from McDee's. I don't make it a habit though, but sometimes she finds my cup no matter where I hide it.
If you ask her what she wants to drink - she always says either water or milk.
Or I rarely if ever give her juice either. I just recently buying apple juice for her, but it is so watered down I don't even know if she tastes the apple.
Of course if a parent wants to give their kids soda or sugar or whatever that is their business not mine.
DD is almost 4 and (as far as I know) has only tried soad (Sprite) once in her life -- that was this past summer and she HATED it... I was so happy!
DH and I do not have the best eating habbits and we are trying very hard to keep our girls in line... that means no soda in the house for anyone. We are leading by example. DD drinks water, 2% milk or flavored water Capri Suns.
I'm anti-soda for her because (unlike GHM) we are not health nuts and I know she is getting enough junk in her regular diet, no need for her to drink junk, too.
DH drinks D.Coke like it's going out of style which completely grosses me out. But, my personal preferences aside, unfortunately, soda is always going to be in our house and will be a temptation for DD when she is older, I"m sure. I am going to try as long as i possibly can to keep her away from the stuff. I wont have a problem letting her have a tiny bit of soda as a treat when she is older (at least 5 or 6), but definitely NOT cola - something caffeine free.
Re: would you give your child soda?
Where's Cajun with that FUBAR "give your baby Coke" ad from the 50's?

No I would not!
I would MAYBE give a kid that age a very small amount of sprite in the middle of the day. Kids do not need the sugar and certainly not the caffeine.
did you see my ad the other night?
Ha, yeah I saw that.
love the new sig pic:) Looks like your little man is wreaking havoc in your household, lol!

this!!!
My 3 year old drinks soda.
We stick to sprite zero and diet coke.
We don't let him have diet coke at night, because of the caffeine.
I pick my battles with that kid. Flame me if you must.

This exactly....
Like there's a need for it with adults? I'm just saying...
Jen, I won't flame you. Like you said, you pick your battles. I would probably do the same thing in your shoes.

That's a big fat no.
