f/u to sophie post: DS isn't into toys- is that bad?

I was reading vtkendra's post and I realized- DS doesn't really have any toys that he likes or dislikes. He just kinda goes with the flow with whatever is put in front of him. Should I be worried? I mean he's only 4 months. I didn't know they could have favorite toys at this age. hmm....

  • Nope, don't worry.  My son would smile at certain toys, but that's it.  And he probably did that because we encouraged him to without realizing our own preferences.

  • Not bad at all, more like normal.  :)  Babies think of toys and non-toys as the same--all things they want to learn about and discover.  DD loves playing with her toys, but she also loves playing with my keys, measuring cups, the dog's treats, and lint on the floor (yuck!)  Everything is new to babies and they just want to play, play, play!

  • At 4mo I wouldn't be concerned.  Maggie was never really that into her toys - she was more into people playing and talking to her for a long time.  She is really just now getting the attention span needed to really play with her toys for more than a few minutes.
  • Don't be worried at all.  My son didn't love anything in particular at that age either.  I think 4 mos is pretty young to be into toys.
  • Ah yes, patience grasshopper - there will be plenty of time for them to have preferences for toys later - like when they're 2 yrs. old and INSIST that certain toys be brought on trips to the grocery and other certain toys be brought to Home Depot (that's always fun...not!)

I figured it was too early, but being a first time mom definitely has its moments of self-doubt. Tongue Tied      *sigh* oh the joys....

  • The only "toy" that DD really plays with is the burb cloth. She likes to grasp it and move it around and try to put it in her mouth. She can't really grasp rattles yet so I've just been sticking with the burb cloth for now.

By the way Kcita, I met Caleb at the daycare last week and I think I saw him yesterday. In the evenings, they seem to load up the kids in strollers and walk the halls. He seemed happy and he's a cutie!

You saw my little guy! Isn't he precious? I've been keeping an eye out for your LO, but we're usually the first ones there and the last ones to leave (esp. leaving as I feel like we're always racing out just before the late fees start).

And don't leave daycare without Dolly, or tantrums will ensue in the car with her screaming "DOLLY" all the way back to daycare (only 5 min).
