I had some family over last night and after that the girls didn't eat well and they didn't sleep well for daddy. Is this what happens when your LO's get overstimulated? At what point do we have to stop worrying about overstimulation?

When we were still in the hospital my Lo wouldn;t eat well if we were holding him b/f feedings..We would let him lay down for about 30min b/f feedings..I don't remember when it stopped.Sorry..
Yes! We've had a few instances (took our son to our friends who had kids and a dog, at the park) where DS wouldn't eat or sleep - but he was obviously very tired and hungry (and did both as soon as we got home). It's like he can't focus on what he needs because he's too distracted, or perhaps overstimulated.
We have been just taking him places (mainly the park, outdoor places) here and there to get him used to it..hoping he'll get more flexible..
I do think he's getting better but still very affected by it.
Yup, that's exactly what would happen when they got overstimmulated, if they were extremely overstimmulated they would also start screaming in hysterics.
Honestly, they still get overstimmulated sometimes, but it's nothing like it was when they were tiny. It slowly gets better. By about 4-5 months adjusted it was much less severe. Since about their adjusted 1st birthday, they've been a bit more sensitive than other kids, but not horribly so.
Don't laugh but overstimulation is STILL a issue with my tot. He was not a premie either only IUGR. I noticed the first 3 months he needed quiet and plenty of routine as well. It was eat, sleep, poop/pee, repeat. If we had too much family over or I was out too much or if it was just loud it got him off. I know for us 3 mos he was able to slowly handle more... of course like I said he was not a premie so I am planning on this possibly lasting until my twins hit around 3 mos Adjusted Age (if that makes sense) or maybe longer. Just remember slow baby steps... HTH!
