Question from 3rd-tri re: clothes for after birth

Would it be stupid to buy new pants to wear in the hospital after LO is born?  I plan on buying a pair of comfy pants that are really light and loose in the belly area in case I have a c-section, but if I'm going to be bleeding all over whatever I wear, I don't want to waste the money.  Did you buy new pants or would it be better to just bring a pair I already own?

  • I wore the hospital gown the whole time, but i did bleed a LOT and it leaked out quite a bit from the gigantor pads.

  • I bought yoga pants for the hospital. I didnt bleed all over at all. I did buy gray and black ones though just in case. You have this huge diaper sized pad on.

  • If you had pants when you were 3-6 months prego those should work...I used that and pj pants/sweats a size bigger.
  • I bought a pair of nursing pjs that I loved.  I wore black yoga pants for the first night and then changed into my other ones.
  • I wore their gown untill i left.

Mostly because I never made it to the bathroom in time to pee. I had no control. Especially when you start kinda leaning over to sit down, pull your pants down.. the pressure on your bladder is a disaster.

  • Just bring something you wouldn't mind getting dirty. I didn't "bleed all over my pants" but whether or not you have a c-s, you will have a lot of vaginal discharge and bleeding anyway, so you don't want anything nice.

I can tell you though, once you get home, at least for the first week or two, you really want to wear nothing but pajamas, so some nice loose shirts, yoga pants, and a nursing or sports bra that you can put leak pads in are necessities.

Um, yeah. The Bump be too crazy for pics of my kid.
  • I just wore the gown the whole time due to the bleeding and they had to check my stitches (not c-section) every 4 hours or something, much easier to just use the gown than deal with pants. I did bring some yoga pants to go home in, I just brought scummy old ones and I'm glad I did because it was kind of like "goodbye old pregnancy yoga pants!" and I got new ones after we were home and I lost some weight.

LOL...I had the opposite problem...I had a catheter b/c of the spinal, and the first time I peed afterwards I swear I had to sit on the toilet for 10 minutes, but once it came, it was the biggest release...I peed more than I had in 6 months!

  • I bought capri pajama pants.  I didn't bleed out of the diaper-pad.  I got the pajamas in the ladies section rather than the juniors section and I'm glad I did.  I ended up with a c-section and the waist band was higher and more comfortable.
  • I wore yoga pants and a nursing tank and had a robe when we had visitors. I bought new stuff just for fun and bought dark colors. I never leaked through with the gigantic pads on. I felt more human in my clothes, but alot of people prefer the hospital gowns. I had a c section and did think it was kind of difficult to lean over to pull my pants up and down. DH had to help me for the first two days.

  • I wore my maternity yoga pants home.  If you have a stretchy, comfy pair of pants already, bring those and don't bother buying new ones.

  • i wore yoga pants in the hospital.  I wore a gown for the first little bit, but was more comfortable in the pants to go down to the BF'ing class and the circumcision info session, etc.  I also felt more comfortable being in pants with visitors b/c I didn't have to worry about how I was sitting on the bed and all.  I also had a fairly easy recovery and was not a heavy bleeder

  • The bleeding is very heavy in the first few days and I recommend against any pants.  All I wore was the hospital gown and the disposable panties that the hospital provided (plus a GIGANTIC pad with Tucks pads on it and anesthetic spray on top of that).  You could get them to wear on the way home to be comfy in.  That's what I did.

  • I wore a gown for the first few days and my own own nightgown.  I left in a pair of maternity yoga pants.  I was so swollen for all the iv fluid/HELLP side effects/magnesium that I did not fit into most of my maternity clothes.

  • I just wore the hospital gown the entire time.  If you do get pants get black ones.  I really would recommend black stretchy yoga pants.

  • Buy the new pants, but buy black just in case you do leak.

  • I used my yoga pants and sweatsuit I wore at 4-6 months preg.  But I honestly stayed in my hospital gown the whole time, I wore my yoga pants to go home.  I recommend you use the gown, you change pads so many times, it'll be hard with pants. Not to mention your all sore so you can't take your pants on and off too many times.

  • I bought new clothes and brought them with me, carefully planning it out and you know what I wore? The hospital gown the whole dang time. I didn't care what I was wearing to be honest.

ETA: I wore a dress home. Pants would have killed my stitches.

  • I wouldn't..unless you plan on buying black. I bled a lot, pads or no pads. I was afraid to wear pants at all and dreaded going home because of it.
  • you probably won't wear the pants except for walking the halls.  they come in and check your bleeding on the chucks pad and your stitches (vaginal or abdominal) so frequently you would just have to take them down all the time.
  • I wore nothing but the gown the whole time I was there. Too.much.blood.

I just wore some black yoga pants home and was safe for the 15 min drive, lol.
