what would you recommend? I didn't have one when DS was younder because we didn't have a kitchen table. Now we do (FWIW it's taller than normal, like counter height) and I need something for both kids... The second I can use 1 seat for both so I'm leaning that way, but would like your recs.
Re: high chair question
What about this instead:

You can use it with your existing chairs so that the baby will be at your level, plus it converts to a booster so you won't need anything else.
If it were me, I'd stay away from the pedestal seat one, as it cannot be folded up and stored away easily. The pedestal looks pretty big, and I think it would take up space on your kitchen or dining room floor to me.
It has been a while since anyone in my family has sat in a high chair, but we still have ours, folded as compact as possible and stored in the attic. I have several friends with babies, and we can easily pull it out, unfold it, and set it up for them.
My highchair is more like the 2nd one on your post, and I have had it for almost 9 years. I've been very happy with it. It was the Chicco Mamma, but I'm not sure they're still available.
ETA: I have 2 friends with 9 month olds who have the one in Erika's post, and they both would recommend it.
Of the two you give, I like the second one better. We have one that is similar & it's been great.
We also have the spacesaver one that erika mentions. We love that one too. We use it at home & since it's smaller we take it with us when we go to dinners at friend's & family's houses.
If you have a counter-height table, go with this one. That way, the baby can sit at the table with you. However, I do not like it as a booster. The arms do not come off, so you can't push the chair under the table--at least not in my case.
