We are. Our first born DD had many allergies as a baby and we're trying our best to be careful with DS who is more than likely to be the same. Back in my home country (in Asia) babies usually are not started on solids until they are 1 yrs old. I'd like to do the same, or at least for as long as DS can stay satisfied on formula alone.
I gave cereal to DS today only because he has diarrhea and the doctor recommended it to try and bind him up a bit, but after that I'm waiting until 5 months for both of them. I just didn't see the need to jump on the cereal bandwagon at 4 months. The longer they go, the better their digestive system, right?
We are. I just don't see a compelling reason at this point to start before then. Even if he didn't have allergies, I don't see a benefit. Why take a risk if it's just for practice and not nutritional value?
1. so i dont have to spend the $ on baby food 2. so i dont have to change solid food diapers.
You must BF because cereal is soooo cheap and I plan on making veggie baby food myself (also cheap). DS's formula is $25 per can and he eats about 1 can every 6 days. LOL
BTW this is not the reason I started DS on solids. My pedi ok'ed me to start before 4 mo. and I felt he was ready- though I am not pushing it. (Just tried it a few times)

This.
We don't plan to start solids until DS shows all of the signs for being ready and willing. If that is at 5 months, then fine.. but if it isn't until 8 months, then we'll wait. We EBF and he is getting everything he needs from me.
We will start LO on cereal at least, at 4 months. But this is based on his Ped's recomendation since he has bad Acid Reflux. I wouldn't be doing it otherwise. We've tried some cereal in the bottle but he for the most part hates it. I am going days between each time we try to give this to him and imagine solids will go the same way
Side note: isn't it funny that what is on LO's "solids menu" is almost identicle to what was on our "liquids menu" after child birth?
I honestly was not aware that it was common practice to give solids before 6 months. The Canadian Pediatric Association recommends waiting until 6 months, and I'm an ECE so that's what I've always been told, so that's what I'll do. *shrug*

Me. Because it's what currently recommended by my pedi and by many other reputable sources (AAP, WHO, etc...).
ETA: we'll also be skipping cereal as it's nutritional value is minimal. I'd like to avoid purees altogether but I need to get DH on board with baby-led weaning.
