Baby Names

H and I can't agree

Try to make this short...

H is Italian and loves the name Dominic for a boy and would call him Nic.

I love the name Nicholas and would shorten it to Nic.

I do not like Dominic, as our last name is VERY Italian and long, and I just think it is too much.  He doesn't like Nicolas, but we both like Nic.

UGH...constant fight.

Dominic is a family name and it would mean the world to him, I just don't know how I could name my son something that I don't like.

We need to have a girl!

Re: H and I can't agree

  • What about Nico? I love that name and you can still call him Nic.

  • Yes, my first thought was Nico too. That's my nephew's name.

I dont think that argument flies....Nicholas and dominic are the same length with the same amount of syllables! So what is the difference?

I think Dominic goes better with a long italian name than Nicholas!

You said yourself you are going to be calling him Nic..not Dominic. I'm sure your H feels the same way about Nicholas.

    Just name him Nic!

Nico is my son'e name, we never call him Nic, but it is an option and goes great with a long italian last name.

  • I'd just go with Nic.

  • If you've both agreed to call him Nic, I would go with the family name and use Dominic.

  • Nicholas is as long as Dominic to me.  And Dominic is a little more unique.  GL!

  • If you are going to call him Nic from the moment he's born just name him Nic. There's no need to find a name for a perfectly good first name.

FWIW I think Dominic is a GREAT italian name, that ages well. To me it seems classic.

  • Nico rocks.

I'm not a fan of Dominic myself. Nicholas is much nicer.

I will cross my fingers you get a girl :)

  • I'd just cut to the chase and call him Nic too

  • I really don't like Nic as a stand alone name so I can't recommend that. Nicholas, I love, but not Dominic.
  • I like Nicholas more than Dominic, but since it has a family connection I'd probably go with Dominic. At least you be calling him Nic. Give him both Dominic Nicholas, lol.
  • Dominic goes better with a loooooong italian name (I grew up with one... a long italian name and an uncle name Dominic and a father with the middle name Dominic).
  • I like the suggestion of Nico. If you don't like Dominic then don't use it!

    I agree with this exactly.

Of course, this is just my preference between the names ... doesn't really help your name debate at all :)
