I know that once you've had a preemie that your chances of your future pregnancies ending in premature labor increases, but how high are the statistics? How many of you have had a pregnancy that has gone to term after giving birth to a preemie?
I haven't had a second baby yet. But my doctors said I will never go to term any babies from here on out will be preemie. And we can only hope that with each I make it as far along as I did with Brendan which was 28 weeks 5 days.
my docs never said this. my 1st said went tiil 41weeks my second son was born at about 31 weeks and my daughter was born at 32 weeks. but when i was pregnant with my last child the doc never mentioned this statistic.
They never told me how high, they just said it may be more likely for us. We have unexplained PTL, so we will be seeing a high risk specialist prior to TTTC, and then all along the way. I know a FT baby is possible after a preemie, depending on why you had them early.
It depends on why you delivered prematurely. It could be something that was totally random or it could be something that could increase your chances next time.

It totally depends on your situation and what your doctors think. My decline was so fast and horrendous that my doctor actually told me he didn't think he'd be seeing me the next morning and he shook my hand while congratulating me on not being dead - nice :-P The final advice was to not to attempt to continue a 2nd pregnancy because there's like a 60% chance that the baby would come earlier than DS (who was 32wks) and that I wouldn't survive since I'd, obviously, be older. Their best guess as to why I survived having DS was that I was young (26).
My doctors says that I have a 10% chance of the placental abruption happening with the second child... and the preterm labor I think was 30% ( don't quote me on this) ... I have been on progestrone shots since week 16 and have not had any complications yet! But, I am sure the statistics depend on the reason for delivering early!
