Wedding gown preservation?

Okay, so I never had my gown preserved and actually my mom and I made it into a gown and cape for DD and little outfit for DS for their Christenings. I would like for these to become heirlooms and hope that some day they will want to use them for their children. My question is, if I have these preserved, can they be "un" preserved later? And if not, what is the best way for me to store them so that they hold up for generations to come?

Re: Wedding gown preservation?

  • Yep they can be preserved and taken out later. ?When I worked in a bridal shop the "preserving" was really, well, not worth the $$ if you ask me.

You can either do it yourself (dry clean the items, seal them in airtight plastic, store out of sunlight) or pay to do it. ?They will likely yellow, even in a dark place.?

They dry clean, put blueing paper in a box, arrange things all pretty, and seal the box. ?The bluing paper keeps things from yellowing over time. ?In my experience, the boxes are NOT airtight.

  • Okay, so where can I buy this "blueing" paper? Sounds like this is something I can do myself, especially since I am not worried about it looking pretty in the box Stick out tongue

  • No idea, I've never seen it anywhere. ?I'll admit I've never looked too hard though. ?I know they sell it in liquid form at some stores with spray starch & stuff... but I don't know!
