I rarely do bows. Only for pictures (sometimes) and if we're going out somewhere and she's dressed up and it matches what she's wearing. 95% of the time she's bowless. Sometimes they're pretty ridiculous...and then sometimes they're ridiculously cute. Just depends. And, no, she doesn't try to pull them out.....yet! Her hair is just now getting long enough for alligator clip bows. Once they actually serve a function (as in keeping her hair out of her face) I'm sure she'll be sporting a barrette or bow a lot of the time.
We do barrettes here I only put them in when the girls ask for them, though. DD #2 has just gotten to the point where she asks for them & leaves them in.

I'm a bow girl and Addie wears one everyday. I match her outfits. Lame, maybe, but you can only wear a big bow for a little bit and then it's just not cool so I'm milking this stage.
I am a huge frilly and froo-froo fan. I'm lucky that neither of my girls mind wearing them. (headbands, bows and clips) In fact, now G insists. I do put them on most days to coordinate with their outfits.
I love them. Maren is too young to care right now. I hope she will stay ok with them. She wears a bow for pictures and maybe 2-3 days a week. Definitely not everyday though.
My girls wear bows and/or barrettes fairly often. DD#1's hair is always in her eyes if I don't do something and she hates when I put it up (even though she refuses to get it cut and puts up with it on days when she's going somewhere). Anyway, neither really pulls them out. Once in a while, DD#2 will pull out her ponytail b/c she's messing with it and trying to show it off, but other than that, not really. The trick when they were babies was if I could keep them from noticing and pulling it out right away, they wouldn't notice later anyway.
No bows here. I think they're just not popular in the north. I'm not a fan of all the frills anyway. DD will barely leave clips in her hair. She'd never let me put a bow in.

Re: If you are a bow person.
I think it's a regional thing actually. I'm sure there are things that my DD wears that would not be fashionable in TX.
