I totally try to avoid catching my kids colds because if I get sick there is no "time off" for me. I still have to get up and take care of them, bring them to school and pick them up, get breakfast, lunch and dinner ready.
why would you not? Seriously, you might not be able to avoid it but then again you might so at least you know you tried everything you could not to get sick. Something as simple as not drinking out of the same cup makes total sense to me. I'd rather not share a cup than get a horrible cold.

I just consider it completely unavoidable. I don't get sick every time (not even close). So I have a kind of 'meant to be' attitude about it. I'm interested in the hygiene hypothesis. I don't use purrell or anything, etc. (although that's not what this post is about!)

I refuse to share a drink with Jackson 99% of the time anyway, so during a cold I refuse 100%. I don't like to drink after anyone, but it's especially gross to drink after him - he's the king of disgusting backwash. But other than that in particular, I don't really freak out about avoiding getting his colds.
I rarely get sick when he does - in fact I can't remember the last time we were both sick. He was sick last week and I didn't get it. MH was sick too, even.

I'm with you, I kind of figure it's inevitable with the close contact we have. It's not like she is all that great about covering her mouth and washing her hands after blowing her nose etc. If she has the stomach flu, I do take more precautions because that seems somewhat avoidable, but when she is coughing and sneezing it's pretty much everywhere.
I don't eat/drink after DS on a good day! And we're super diligent about hand washing anyway. That said...I almost always get DS's colds! I endearingly refer to him as my little fomite. And since DD's been born there's just an added link in the chain of fomites. He brings the funk and DD and I suffer the rath!

This 100%!! I can take better care of my 4 kids if I am not sick!
I don't usually eat or drink after him anyway, but other than that, no, I don't go out of my way to avoid his colds. I still kiss him all over and hug/hold him. I almost never get sick, so I'm not too concerned.

This exactly. We do try to avoid but with wiping his nose and touching everything he touches and having him stick his hands on our face all the time, it's pretty unavoidable.
