The crazy thing is the dictionary supports both definitions. If you want to avoid confusion completely, I guess you need to say "twice weekly" or "twice monthly."

I know! That is exactly why I am asking....lol. I sent an email to someone saying that I wanted something bi-weekly and they thought I meant 2x's per week (I meant every other week). So I googled it and I couldnt believe that the definition was both-- that makes NO sense to me!

I wanted to know what the concensus of others was!!

To me biweekly means every other week, and semi-weekly means twice a week.  In other words, every two (bi) weeks vs. every half (semi) week.

It depends on the context.  If someone tells me they are having bi-weekly OB visits, I would think twice a week, but if someone says they are paid bi-weekly I would think every other week.  Before I worked in a medical setting, though, I would have thought every other week.

I have often wondered what the "true" definition of it is.  I voted for every other week, since that is how it is used in my field (e.g., kids have "bi-weekly counseling" written on their IEPs, which means I am supposed to see them twice a month).
