Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

new here. question: how long did you have to wait for d&c?

Hello, just discovered missed miscarriage at 8w5d.  I have called the dr's office where I want to schedule the d&c. I have not eaten anything yet today, in the hope that they could schedule it today.  But they have not called back.  Is that a pipe dream?  How long did you guys have to wait.  I don't think I can handle waiting until Monday.

Also, do they always do them first thing in the morning?  Or could you have one in the afternoon.

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

  • Oh Chicago! I've been praying for you.  I'm so sorry to see you over here.  I don't have an answer to your question, but if you need to chat I'm here for you.

Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • Hi.  Sorry you're here.  We found out on a Friday afternoon.  I was given my options and immediately chose a DNC (I needed it to move on).  I then requested that it was done that weekend.  They scheduled it for the next day (Saturday at 8:00 a.m.).

At least in my case, I told them I wanted it done NOW and they respected that.  GL.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.  I had my missed miscarriage discovered this Monday and was able to have the D&C on Tuesday afternoon.  My sense was that it was simply a matter of when they could book the OR.  I totally understand what you mean about not wanting to wait...even the 24 hours for me was really hard.  I hope they can get you in, but if not, I'm sure they will for Monday and that you'll make it through the weekend with the help of this board.

  • Oh Chicago, I am so sorry to see you here! Mine was discovered 2 days ago and I go in today at 1230.  I hope you can get in and get it done!! Big hugs to you!!
  • It's been my expereince that once the doc discovers/confirms the miscarriage they immediately give you your options.  If you choose D&C they will schedule you right then of call you later that time to confirm scheduling.  Normally it occurs within 3 or 4 days of the discovery.

I had to be there at 11 for a 2:00 procedure but it probably depends on the facility you are having it done at.

  • I'm sorry.

I went to the ER last Saturday at 11 AM and was in surgery for a D&E 2 hours after my u/s where they discovered the baby didn't have a heartbeat. I was home by 6:30 PM

  • I found out on monday 9/14 that we had miscarried 2 weeks prior, my OB did the D and C on 9/16. I just wanted it done. I am sorry for your lost..
  • My miscarraige was discovered last wednesday and I had the d&c the first thing on Thursday.  I don't blame you for wanting to do it soon.

  • I had a missed miscarriage, so they just scheduled mine after 3 weeks of me waiting to miscarry naturally. But mine was scheduled for noon, so it wasn't in the morning. It was good that way actually, because I got to sleep in and not worry about not eating :)
  • They discovered a missed m/c for me this past Monday (just had d&c today).  They asked me when I wanted to do the d&c, they were willing to do it Tuesday.  I had to keep working, so I scheduled it for Friday am.

I asked about afternoon procedures too and the doc only does them in the morning.  I don't know if that is just the practice of OB/GYN's or what.

Praying for your peace of mind as you wait through the weekend.

  • Oh no - I am so sorry for your loss and sorry to see you here.  When I found out about my m/c, they scheduled my D&C for the next day.  Then I called my regular obgyn and she was doing them at a different hospital the next day too, and asked if I would rather go to her and I said of course.  I have no idea what strings she pulled, but the people from her hospital called me at 6:30 the next morning, and DH and I were there an hour later.

I am so sorry to hear.  I hope you get a call back so you don't have to wait.

  • I am still waiting for mine.  I had a u/s yesterday which showed an occasional, faint HB.  No growth since Monday.  I scheduled a u/s for next Friday and the D&C right afterward, because they are hoping it will be over by then.  I hope so too...I can't take this anymore.
