3rd Trimester

upper stomach hurts...normal?

The upper right side of my stomach has been hurting all day, regardless of my position.  The only thing I can figure is that the baby is positioned with his feet lodged in my rib cage or organs or something.  Anyone else have this happen?

Re: upper stomach hurts...normal?

  • I'm going through this today actually.  I think it's from sitting kinda hunched over at my desk all day though.

  • not to freak you out but i was in yesterday for some signs of pre e and one question they asked is if my right upper abbs hurt, like right under my ribs.  they said that is your liver or kidney? sorry can't remember :) and that is a bad sign. has your bp been high at all? wouldn't hurt to give your dr a call and ask.
  • Yikes!  Thanks for the info because my bp has been really high but only occasionally and I have had A LOT of swelling in my hands and feet.  My Dr. wasn't concerned about the bp though because it has only been high on a few occasions, but normally my bp is never high.  Does anyone know if that's normal with pre e?  For the bp to skyrocket like that and then be normal again or does it usually stay high?

  • Yes it could be the position although I will say that my doctor always asks me if I am having "upper right quadrant" pain. Not sure why they ask that but I would say if your pain is really bad or it doesn't go away with rest, then maybe call your doctor.?
  • I complained about the same thing at the doctor's last week - I had a really sore spot right around my right rib.  I was also having headaches and fatigue...she said those three symptoms were signs of a rare form of pre-e and sent me to a 24 hour- lab to have my blood drawn right away.  I didn't have high bp or swelling, but those aren't symptoms of this form of pre-e.

I was fine, but still have this sore spot, and it occasionally spreads across to the mid section of my upper abdomen - right below my sternum.  It is SORE.  I don't feel baby kicking there, so the only thing I can figure out is maybe its just everything stretching?
