I've been doing really well avoiding caffeine from sodas, coffee and tea but I can't quit the chocolate! I guess I would rather be "bad" with chocolate than soda if that's what it comes down to! Anyone else?
I have cysts and I was told no coffee, chocolate or caffeine of any kind unless I want them to grow (and be very painful in doing so). Well, when that happened I was practically living off that stuff. My doctor told me that the cheap brands of chocolate (like Palmer and Hershey's) don't really have all that much caffeine so they're OK. Its the really expensive, rich chocolates that have tons of caffeine. So as long as you're not eating like 50 pounds of Hershey's chocolate bars a day the caffeine wont affect you or the baby.
Pre-PG I hated chocolate. Hated. Yuck. I know it's weird but I just don't like the taste...don't know why.
The funny thing is that I could always tell when AF was going to visit because I would crave chocolate. I didn't like it...but I had to have it. Totally bizarre hormone thing.
Well guess what's rockin' right now? Those crazy hormones are at it again.
The other day I baked S'mores Brownies - brownies with chocolate chips, graham crackers and marshmallows mixed in.
As I walked into the room with a plate of brownies and a tall, cold glass of milk I told DH that THIS is a sure sign that I am pregnant.
I've always craved "pregnant foods" like pickles with bagels, Miracle Whip and cottage cheese on top with a side of salami...but seeing me with a brownie in my mouth - that is all the proof my family needed.
I am quite the chocolate lover anyway pre-pregnancy. Since I have been pregnant I have been doing my best to eat healthy. Strangely, I noticed that on occasion when I am m/s and can barely stomach anything...however, I will be able to eat chocolate. I have bought Chocolate malt-o-meal for breakfast and I have a stash of chocolate chips that I bought to make for brownies that I sometimes pick at. Oh and I love those really healthy luna bars for women (granola bars with folic acid and such) I get the Nuts over chocolate! yum for snacking. I was going to make a post to see if chocolate was helping anyone else during pregnancy?!
I wonder where people get that chocolate is bad for you? I actually read that women who had something like dark chocolate 3x a week in their 3rd tri it actually HELPS prevent pre-eclampsia.
This is the info my doc gave me. Oh and I was told to keep my caffeine intake under 200mg/day.
Some people are surprised to learn that chocolate is not high in caffeine. A typical 8-ounce glass of chocolate milk has the same amount of caffeine as a cup of decaffeinated coffee. A HERSHEY'S chocolate bar (1.55 ounce) contains about 10 mg of caffeine - slightly more than a cup of decaffeinated coffee, but much less than that found in regular coffee, tea, and some soft drinks. The small amount of caffeine in chocolate occurs naturally in cocoa beans.

I've been pretty good with eating EXCEPT during the day when I get the munchies and I can't stay away from potato chips!! ?I just bought pretzels yesterday so maybe that will help me with the cravings for the greesy chips. And my co-worker brought in low fat cheese-its for me! ?She's so sweet. ?So that will help too! ? ?
