Pregnant after a Loss

Advice Please

I just started a new position on Aug 31st (I accepted the job offer the day before I got my BFP).  I am in special events which can require lots of moving things/hauling things/etc during an event and we have one this weekend.  I just helped my boss load an entire 16 foot trailer with all of the event supplies (I work for a not for profit...hiring movers is not in the budget).

I don't want to tell my boss or coworkers yet but I am nervous about this weekend.  The event is all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday (I will actually be staying up at the camp - its a cycling event).  It is early to tell anyway and I just started at the agency but I don't want to jeopardize anything by having to lift items that are too heavy or too demanding...

Thoughts??

Re: Advice Please

  • I'm not one for lying, but could you avoid doing any real heavy lifting by blaming something else, like your back or wrist or something?

  • I would tell your boss and emphasize that you are available in all other capacities until you go on leave.

I agree with this. I told my boss last week, because I was supposed to travel to Berlin still in the first Tri and I wasn't comfortable with it. She told me she was very appreciative of my being up front and honest.

I think you'll be fine to tell your boss, but if not pp's idea about blaming a back /wrist injury will work too!

  • I wouldn't do anything you're uncomfortable with.  But with that said, I'm a physical therapist for children and I do lifting allllllllll day long.  I spoke with my OB about this and she said try not to lift anything heavier than 20-40 pounds.  I just laughed.  She said though that low risk women can lift, when properly done, throughout pregnancy.  Good luck and remember proper body mechanics.  Lift with your legs.

  • Will it involve lifting more than 20 lbs? If so I'd definitely tell your boss. I think she'll appreciate the honesty.

I told work very early on because I had severe m/s and it was effecting my performance at work. They were very supportive and understanding.

  • Judging by the stuff I moved today it will probably be items up to 30-40 lbs - banquet tables, tents, etc.  I don't want anyone to feel like I am trying to get out of anything b/c I am pregnant but after two losses you ladies all know how nervous you can get.

This was what I was going to suggest!
