How did you pick your Pedi? Any recommendations?

I need to start working on finding a pediatrician.  I am not sure where/how to start.  Should I just look at names through my insurance and start calling/interviewing based on good location, etc?  There isn't anyone close in my neighborhood with small children and my friends with small children don't live by me (I am in South Leawood/OP area).

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated!!

Re: How did you pick your Pedi? Any recommendations?

  • The hospital gave us a list to choose from (St. Lukes South) for his in hospital care.  We looked at some names and found some reviews and Dr. Marsha Weaver quickly became top on our list.  We figured if we didn't care for her in the hospital we would find a new one afterwards.

Turns out, she was beyond amazing!  She is located right by St. Lukes South and has very flexible hours.  She is a family pract. so we all go to her now, which is very convenient.  She is great with my kid and her nurses have always got back to me quick with any questions (I probably called every other day for the first two months, yes I was "that" mom. lol.)

    Good luck with your pregnancy!

  • I asked my midwife for recommendations initially, and then found out later that several people we know use the same practice.  We went and interviewed the ped before DD was born, and have been using them ever since.  We go to Pediatric Partners, which is located in a building adjacent to OPRMC.  We see Dr. Jennifer Mellick, who has 4 young girls of her own, and she is awesome.  The only problem we have had with the practice in the last 3.5 years is the occasionally long wait times to be seen at an appointment.  I do enjoy that they have walk-in hours daily first thing in the morning, and also in the afternoon during the winter months.  That has been very convenient at times!

  • We started with the list St. Luke's South gave us and then I asked a couple of recent moms who live/work near me and ended up picking one to interview first and we loved her! Her office is halfway between our house and my work, they have walk-in hours on Monday moring, T,W,Th after work and then Saturday mornings.

I also really like that their after hours phones are answered by nurses at Children's Mercy South, that's come in VERY handy. Also, you can leave a message for the pedi during the day and they will call you back in the evening.

  • Someone on here recommended them and they were close to where we live too.

  • I asked my OB if she had any recs. She gave me a list and we went from there. We ended up choosing our pedi because they would come to the hospital I was delivering at, close to our house, wonderful office and most of all because our insurance covered them.

  • We go to Pedatric Patners. It's located right behind OP Regional. DD sees Dr. Peterlin and we love her. We've also seen Dr. Blum before, and he is great too. We are very happy with the practice.

They are amazing.  My friends who are doctors take their child there too.
