Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Can you use Oragel, Tylenol, & Hylands Tabs near the same time?

DD is really teething bad the last couple days and I cant decide which of these to use. These are her first teeth and she is getting the front, bottom two at the same exact time... poor thing.

Could I technically use all three and not worry about "mixing" the meds? (Not that I will, but I feel afraid to dabble with this one and that one unless I know its okay).

TIA ladies!

  • I do but I find Motrin works better for teething pain as it will help with swelling from pressure as well. Both my kids cut 2 at a time.
  • we've done teething tablets and tylenol.  i wouldn't throw a third in the mix.

They all serve different functions and react to different parts of the body. Why would you not add a 3rd?

  • Motrin worked the best for us.

maybe you know the answer - what's the diff between teething tablets and orajel!?  i guess i should say i thought teething tablets did the same thing as orajel......what's the diff?

  • I did when DS was getting his bottom 2 teeth and he's still around.  Motrin does seem to help the most though.

Orajel is a topical numbing gel, while teething tablets are a systemic homeopathic treatment.

  • I thought you might know of a reaction that I was not aware of.

Oragel is topical and numbs the area where the tooth is cutting so direct pain relief. Tylenol is a pain reliever from the inside, motrin relieves swelling from the pressure of the teeth cutting. Teething tablets are mostly sugar and release a hormone in the brain that stimulates the release of chemicals that we release when happy. Like when we have chocolate.

  • I have not heard good things about orajel at all.. i would just do a second or third tablet before using that.. have you tried it? it tastes HORRIBLE!! yes on the tylenol and tablets. GL

thanks!  i had asked about how teething tablets work before and no one seemed to know....=)

the biggest reason is saliva carries it to the back of the throat relaxing the soft palate. Dangerous before bed, esp for back sleepers. Use during wakeful periods is safe. I did not need it for C but J can't function w/o it some days.
