Totally handling this wrong

DD#2 is on meds right now for 10 days (EI/bad cold) and DD#1 cries about wanting to take the meds as well.  I've explained to her that she didn't need them, that they were to make her sister feel better, blah, blah, blah... Crying fits on the floor that she can't have meds like her sister.  ( 6 days of this)

So running late today and K starts one of these fits.  I filled the dropper with water and let her believe it was "something".  So wrong I know, but she hasn't asked for it again since then.

  • I hope somebody chimes in with a better answer because I am going through the exact same thing and have been giving DD droppers full of iced tea since that is the only thing in my fridge other than the juice/water/milk that she drinks.

  • LOL  Sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do.  :)

  • I don't see anything wrong with that. ?It's the sort of thing I would have wished I'd thought of at first rather than as a result of the tantrums. ?Sometimes you do whatever it takes to avoid a tantrum.

  • When one of my kids "gets" medicine, the other one "gets" a teaspoon of chocolate syrup.  Both run away skipping. :)
  • I would have added a drop of whostershire sauce or some equally tasty spice that would have made her never ask again.  I think that is fine.
  •  i immediately thought ahh she's three, she'll get over it, forget about it, or realize she doesn't like medicine...and then won't ask  or melt down over not getting it.  as long as you don't have to give her the water doses every few hours :0)

  • DD loves medicine so I'm sure we'll have that issue at some point.  It's not like your #2 is on daily meds, it will be out of sight out of mind for both of them soon.
