Help! Car Seat Protectors

Hi,

I am posting on your board in the hopes that you might have some advice on these items.  My husband and I have pretty new cars and I was looking at buy one of these for each of our cars in the hopes that it will keep the seats from getting scratched and from regular day to day messes.

I ended up reading the reviews today (right before purchasing) and saw that although most of the reviews were very positive, there were a few that said that these are not safe and that some hospitals will not allow a baby to go home in a car that has one installed.

Anyone have an experience or some advice?!

TIA!

Re: Help! Car Seat Protectors

  • It is very possible that the hospital will not allow them.  However, no one at the hospital ever looked inside our car.  The police dept. will not install a carseat with them, though.  They will, however, use nubby shelf paper that acts as a seat protector and is 'approved' by them.

We use the seat protectors when we install the seats, ourselves.

  • We just used a towel in the same color as our seats, but it didn't make much difference.  The real damage to the seats is from the car seat pushing down on it all the time, a protector won't help with that.

This. Our fire department recommended the shelf paper, nothing more (not even a towel. He explained that it can affect how tight the seat is in the car. We use the shelf paper (bought in the contact paper section of places like Target).

  • Our fire dept said the same thing about them not being safe.  It's not worth the risk for cosmetic purposes for the car. Skip the seat protector & have your little one be safe.
