My poor baby - he's having a rough teething bout and trying to get him to sleep for naps (and at night) right now is a symphony of crying, fighting, biting his fingers while loudly exclaiming "yi-yi-yi-yi-yi-yi!" and digging his thumbs into his ears. He just can't get still and calm even though he's so tired. I gave him 2 teething tablets which worked like magic last night but weren't doing the trick just now - so finally in frustration and just to calm his wild arms and hands down and stop the biting and ear digging - I quickly wrapped a blanket around him and his flailing body and just held him close and shushed - and - voila! Sleeping baby!
Sometimes the oldies but goodies are worth pulling out of your bag of tricks again! (i.e. swaddling. oh and it's very loose, and I'm watching him on monitor. he's safe and can move around/roll around as needed. it just helped calm him to loosely wrap his arms up and restrain them a little bit.)

Re: I just had to semi-swaddle 10 month old Jack to get him down for a nap.
Aw... We're getting the first 4 teeth all at once right now, so I sympathize. Did you say earlier you are giving Motrin? We've been giving him a dose of Tylenol at bedtime, but I wonder if Motrin would work better. Do you just give it at bedtime or do you give it other times, too?
We've got one of those mesh feeder things that I don't know the name of where you can put frozen fruit in it and he can gum on that. DS seems to love that and it helps some with the pain. I'll give the teething tablets a try again tonight, too! Good luck!
